Mobile IV infusions... for hangovers

Have you ever heard about in-home IV infusion to get rid of hangovers? This is an idea I started thinking about when I read about it being offered in New York, and because in personal experience it works well, but someone has beat me to it locally.

The basic idea is extremely simple. You call, talk to a prescriber (currently an MD, but they're looking for NPs) who asks you about your health history and symptoms, then a nurse shows up and starts an IV. They don't take insurance obviously; no one will cover this. It seems a little sketchy, like back alley medicine... but it's also pretty low risk if your screening is thorough.

Now, the NYC operation I first heard about is pretty slick but seems more questionable. For instance they have different packages you get to pick from, the highest of which apparently includes IV magnesium (it says "liquid magnesium"). Not sure how I feel about that.

Anyway, what do you think? If you were going to do this, how would you do it so that it was ethical? I have no intention of starting a competing business... but it seems like a brilliant way to make money.

Hey at my sister's wedding last year my cousin and her husband who are both EMTs brought rehydration bags for any of us who were hungover the next day.

I wasn't hungover as I was in charge of the kids and we came back early. No extra fun for me!! LOL. But it worked for the people that were. It hard getting older and having a hangover!

I think it's an awesome idea!! And would be very profitable.

This was how I found out how great LR is for a hangover, too. I squeezed a liter into a friend of mine the morning after a wedding and she was ready for breakfast in twenty minutes.

Don't tell my malpractice insurer. ;)

Hey, your secret is safe with me!! :whistling:

I'd totally pay for a couple liters at home with how rough my pregnancy has been. I had to get 4 liters 3 weeks ago. Especially if you have no stop diarrhea on top of it from a virus or GI bug.

I'd be wary of electrolyte infusions tho....

When I used to party too much, I found a great/quick hangover. Found this one in Mexico a few years where B12 is OTC.

B12 shot will cure that hangover pretty quick...

Re: Mobile IV infusions...for hangovers: How about some preventative stuff. All it takes is a little Gatorade/PowerAde/electrolytes and a couple of Tylenol before heading to bed or on waking up in the morning. IV to me suggests the person must be comatose and not able to swallow???? I'm not sure the immediate results would be any better.

Yea THAT. I would definitely skip the mag. Little dextrose, little Na, some vitamins.

Well, sure. Prevention is always preferable, but that's not going to help someone who already has a hangover. We sell nicotine patches because people start smoking even though it's not a good idea, and someone started an in-home infusion service because some people drink to excess and have more money than sense.

You and I may never need it, but where there's a demand there's a business opportunity.

This has to fall under the " a fool and his money are soon parted" category. Grave doubts that when compared to sipping on a big, cold fruit punch Gatorade over an hour, this would be better or worse.

This is definitely popular in Vegas, where I use to live (and party! Haha). There's a few different companies, some sound sketchier than others, some will come up to your hotel room!

I had nursing students during F&E lecture discussing mixing drinks in Gatorade!

Could you just use B12 SL? I usually always take a multivitamin with extra B vitamins,

Chug a gatoraid and I'm usually fine in the morning
