Midwestern State University

Published

Hello,

I've been searching through the message boards and I just can't find much information on people who go/have gone to the nursing program at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas. I was wondering...what was your entering GPA? What was your NET score? How did you like it? What hospitals did the school use for classes? Do you feel like you got a good education there?

Thanks so much!

Sarah

Future RN - did they ever confirm how many points you had? I am curious about that. I have soooo many classes I am worried that some of my classes may get overlooked and I may end up with less points that I should have. I sent in my Hesi scores but from what I can see it doens't factor into the points.

LOL, i hope so. Well im glad you dont mind my questions. So how was ur first semester? Hows the school? Teachers? Clinicals? Also are apartments cheap? Advice?

Oh I dont mind my friend did it for me so I dont care! So far the first semester is going great! Im in Health Assessment, Pathophysiology, Computer and some blow off class lol. It's really not that difficult right noe, you really have to put the effort into studying and reading. If you dont know your material then you might not do so well in the course. The questions on the exams are all nursing situations so you have to apply what you know to the question. But if you have good time management and read and study you will have no problems. I actually like the school, people say its such a small town and that there is nothing to do....but in all honesty the town is not that small...WF has everything you really need down there. Yes there isnt much entertainment, but they do have some....but if your anything like me I study so much I dont have time to say Im bored! LOL The teachers are okay, I really dont talk to them much unless I have a question...but most are nice. Clinicals are good, you have to go to United Regionals to SIMS lab, you get a lab partner and you practice the assessment techniques on eachother. It's only one day of the week and you can pick from different times, but the good times like 3-5 fill up FAST! I stay in on campus apartments so Im not sure how much the others off campus are. My advice would be if you have any questions at all about courses or the application proccess call Cathrine Rudy at MWSU and WTNEC....Im pretty sure they memorized my number because I called so much lOL. You want to make sure everything is done the right way so it wont mess your chances up of getting in. When you get into the program STUDY AND READ!!!! I cant stress that enough, but as long as you do that you will have no problems! If you have any other questions dont hesitate to ask! And sorry it took me so long to reply!

Alum08- they actually didnt tell me how many points I applied with but I estimated between 60-63 something around that. I had like 70 credit hours when I applied and as long as you put into WTNEC the right way I promise it wont get overlooked. You still have to send your transcript to MSU Admissions also. The HESI scores actually dont count or factor into the point system...they take the NET up here....we take the Hesi when we get ready to graduate. If you have anymore questions just ask me!

to the upper classmen,

i'm currently in my first sememester, i'm generally a good student, but am not testing well, i've been going to study skills every week, i study alot, i go to every class each time they meet, but am just not pulling off the type of grades i'm used to getting, on the plus side my anxiety levels have been greatly diminished due to study skills... any study advice/test advice would be greatly appreciated, oh also i've decided to go ahead and take pharm at midwestern next sememester, i was thinking about buying the book in the summer time and studying it over the summer, anyone know what textbook i need and what edition? far as the classes i'm currently in they are intro (this one i'm not having trouble with), path, health assessment, and nursing statistics...thanks

to the person who was wondering about points, double check with catherine rudy and make sure that your grades and the wtnec grades match up, i had a discrepency with mine and if i wouldn't have checked i would have had 56 points and would have been on the edge of not getting in, when she corrected the error, i had 59-61 points, she never confirmed in between that, if you haven't already taken your net get that knocked out, as stated before it's a requirement to be admitted, and i can't recall if you were the same person who had the question about having the pre-req's done, if you go to the nursing homepage, it has two separate categories, one category is pre-req's you have to have completed before you can be admitted, and another category that you can complete while in the nursing program, also if you have a reason why you need to be full time, such as financial aid, just know if all your pre-req's are completed, you'll be short on a full time schedule for the first and second semesters...i don't know if they will change it, but this is currently the schedule, also throughout the whole program, you are suppossed to maintain a 3.0 g.p.a, and any grade below a 74 is failing..once you fail two courses you will be kicked out of the program

as stated before, you are required to take the hesi, i believe during the last semester but am not entirely sure on the timing...also the program is 2.5 years long....

They accept three tests now. I took the HESI and they said I could submit that, but I don't see that any of those test help your chances according to the website.

Wow, this is a lot of information. Thank you so much for replying. I really hope i get in. All i can do now is wait for them to send me something in the mail. And i need to figure out how to calculate the point system. Maybe that would make me feel a lil bit better.

Huggienbear1979- Ive also decided to take it at MSU instead of online somewhere else, I think it will help out ALOT later on

knalimol- No problem we dont mind helping out.....You should actually be hearin in a couple of weeks if you got in...and if you look some posts back like maybe around post 8-12 or something then one of my friends actually explained step by step how to add up your points.

Thanks Future RN, i'll look it up and attempt to do this. Until then, i guess i'll have to keep checking my mail.

no problem...anytime!

Specializes in Hematology/Oncology.

I have some questions if anyone would like to answer them. I am going in may to check out the school.

but...

1. how do you like the school?

2. How is the area?

3. Do they have easy to access group study rooms on campus?

4. How much is Rent for an apartment. from a cheap decent one to an expensive one?

5. How do you like the nursing program?

I actually like the school its a very nice campus and so far I like the people, I didnt think I would because it was my first time being away from home....but I adjusted within days!

2.The area is pretty nice, everything you need is right there! You wont waste very much gas at all! The place where we do clinicals is like 7 minutes away...mostly because of the traffic lights. Alot of people say its boring up here, but they have bars, clubs, game places, movie theaters, skating rinks...jus depends on the person...me personally I dont have time to say that its boring because Im always studying.

3.They do, you can either study in the Clark Student Center or go to the library and request a room...its not hard to find a spot at all

4. Now I stay in on campus apartments and they are nice, but I odnt know much about them here....there is a orevious post about the apartment prices from prettyladie im not sure what page number, but you should check it out.

5. its a very good program, it takes hard work and alot of reading and studying to get the grades you want( from my perspective). On page 19 of this post someone has put all the courses you will have to take throughout the semester. For the first 2 semesters, if you are on financial aid, you will need to find extra courses to be full time. Another thing you will hear about is about pharmacology in teh 2nd semester....alot of people take it at a community college because its hard up here...but it's up to you on where you want to take it. Ive heard both sides and have decided to take it at MSU. Other than that I think its a good program.
