Hello,

I've been searching through the message boards and I just can't find much information on people who go/have gone to the nursing program at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas. I was wondering...what was your entering GPA? What was your NET score? How did you like it? What hospitals did the school use for classes? Do you feel like you got a good education there?

Thanks so much!

Sarah

Hi Rha, I currently attend MSU's Wilson School of Nursing in Wichita Falls. My entering GPA through community college was a 3.9, I don't remember my NET score, however, I bought a NET studyguide at the college bookstore and I feel it prepared me well for the test.

I love nursing school - it is hard though! MSU uses both United Regional Healthcare Systems and Kale West for its med/surg courses. Other clinicals are at local nursing homes and community organizations. Psych clinicals are at the state hospital or at a private mental health institution in WF. Senior II courses offer clinicals at local schools and community organizations for Community II. Ped's and Clinical Decision making clinicals are in WF, Denton, or Fort Worth. I believe a good education is subjective, it is what you put into it.

I suggest you:

- look at the pass rates for both UTA and MSU

- compare city opportunities for a social life (there is a LOT of difference)

- compare census - MSU is very diversified, I am sure UTA is also

- compare student/teacher ratio (we're about 80:1 Soph and by Sr 60:1), there are 2-3 professors listed for each course however this can be misleading because each teach different sections)

- inquire about student nurse counseling/tutoring (MSU has just begun this)

Google for the newspapers of each town and then do a search for each school, you will find very good information using these multiple resources which will lead you to make the right decision for you.

I hope this helps!

Thanks! Too bad there aren't more people from there to reply...

I would love some more input! But oh well...

:-(

I, too, am applying to Midwestern State's BSN program for fall 2009, and have had little success finding information regarding their standards for choosing applicants. My GPA is only a 3.23 (overall), although it is higher for my prerequisites. I am also applying to UTEP for fall. If any current or former students from either of these programs are reading this, I am curious to know what your GPA and NET scores were. How competitive are these programs? I am coming from California, where it is a joke how high standards are for transfering into the state school nursing programs.

Another question is if we are not accepted this time around, does the WTNEC keep our transcripts/letters of recommendations/essays for the following semester's applications? I know this sounds bad, but it has been really a pain to get all three letters from my instructors sent to Massachusets--I am not even sure they will get there by the deadline, which is this week. Thanks for reading, and for any info you may have.

hello to all. i just applied to mwsu today. i hated the wtnec application process online. i just hope i get accepted to somewhere. i applied to 5 schools so far. where are the MWSU people at with all the info. as well as baylor, sfasu, twu but there is plenty of info, and tvcc.?? net scores. gpa. any info.

I received my BSN from MSU in 98. I felt that the education gave me what I needed. The only thing I didn't like was I was really interested in pedi/neonatal and the hospital in Wichita Falls has limited opportunities in pedi/neonatal, although it didn't affect my chances on getting my first nursing job in the area I wanted. I started out in NICU and that's the area I am still in.

Back in 98 it really wasn't hard to get into the program. I didn't have to take the NET.

I do recommend this school. I loved the MSU campus. I had a very positive experience when I was there. A lot of nursing students that go to MSU are from the DFW area. I received my education at MSU, but I returned to the DFW area afer I graduated.

Good luck to you!

Hey,

Yes I am. I'm not applying for Fall 2009, I'm applying for Spring 2010. But I'm planning on apply to TWU Dallas/Houston, Midwestern, UTMB, TCU and possibly Texas Tech.

oh. i was going to apply to tech but i didnt have the money for the application, TCU, was one of my top choices, but i didnt want to retake the HESI, i had already taken it but i didnt have to do the sciences for another school and TCU wanted it. so i just applied to TWU, BAYLOR, Midwestern, TVCC and SFA

Did you compare tuition prices? TCU and Baylor are private and VERY expensive colleges. However, my understanding is there are some monies available for scholarships and assistance. Midwestern was the least expensive when I started the nursing program.

Two years ago MSU began accepting 75 applicants twice a year thereby cutting the student/teacher ratio and hopefully increasing the NCLEX pass rate and putting out more nurses. The Hesi is only given to senior two students and counts as half of a class grade. Currently, those who did not do well will have an additional opportunity to take the test before graduation.

I love the school (MSU) and I feel safe on campus. The town of Wichita Falls is much like a country town in many ways yet it is a city. If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask and I'll answer the best I can!

i know they are private. i dont mind that. i know they are expensive. robi-d is that like part of your last name and your first name initial. if so thats like mine too.

Hi robi-d,

I was just accepted in to the BSN program at Midwestern State for this Fall 2009. I would love to ask you some questions, if you dont mind.
