Microbiology: Spring 2010

Published

Hello. Anyone out there taking Micro this semester? I thought I would start a thread for us to talk and discuss microbiology for the semester. I am looking forward to it.

What textbook are you going to be using? I am using Microbiology: With Diseases by Taxonomy - Robert Bauman. I am picking it up tomorrow.

I think it will be a great semester! :yeah:

Someone at my college who took my professor last semester told me that we should study that chapter on microbial metabolism especially well, as it threw many people for a loop on quizzes and tests. I'm scared! ... I hope people on here are free to discuss difficult concepts, let's try to get through this together!

I'm scared too. :chair:LOL. I have never studied metabolism, and would be more than willing to discuss difficult concepts. :brnfrt:

We will be studying metabolism too next week, i think im going to need all the help i can get. this class is already throwing me for a loop!

i got sick after we played with bacteria for the first time. but i still luv micro.

I'm starting Micro on Tuesday. I'm nervous but excited. How is it going so far for those of you who started already?

I'm starting tomorrow. Professor is supposed to be tough. It will be a hard semester, taking micro, physiology and a second semester of chemistry. Glad to see this thread!

Hi, I'm preparing for my first exam on the 9th! So far I really like this class, it's so interesting! I like it 100 times more than my physiology class ( the book so far is boring and so is my professor)

Hope you enjoy it too :)

I enjoy it too. Our first test is tomorrow. EEK. I think I am ready though as it is on prokaryote vs eukaryote cells, and I have read the whole chapter and studied. It is metabolism that has me a bit freaked. Although we had a lecture on it today. It won't be as bad as I thought.

But wow, our professor uses powerpoint, and goes through them so fast your head spins. LOL. Seriously, I look down to write something down and she is on to the next topic. I am so glad I read ahead. Otherwise I would be so lost. She is very nice though. :)

My professor is very much the same way, reads right off the powepoints and goes a bit quick :p I either write or listen to him. I chose to write everything and then read the book ;P I have my first exam the 9th, its 8 chapters! It also has metabolism, along with a lot of other information covering 8 chapters.

What about metabolism don't you understand? Maybe I can help you, I took Bio 1 so this is kind of a review for me.

I am starting Micro on the 16th in an online format along with General Chemistry & Philosophy my last pre/co reqs before applying for advanced placement LPN-RN. Anyone else attempt these two together?

To those of you who already took your first exam- how did it go? I had my first class last night. I really like my professor. He is totally obsessed with microorganisms (in a hysterically funny way) which makes it an exciting class. The course objectives spill onto 6 pages, front and back. Intimidating! But so far....I think I'm going to like this course!

Good luck to ya'll taking the first exam. Kill it!

Hi! I hope everyone's semester of micro is going good! I am studying for an exam and I have a question..hope someone can help!

Hydrogen bonding....can anybody explain this to me? I know that it is the attraction between a partially postive atom and a partially negative atom. But when does/how does the atom become "partial"? Sorry, I know this is probably an elementary question. But my Micro book isn't explaining this to well :/

Thanks in advance!
