Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hello. Anyone out there taking Micro this semester? I thought I would start a thread for us to talk and discuss microbiology for the semester. I am looking forward to it.

What textbook are you going to be using? I am using Microbiology: With Diseases by Taxonomy - Robert Bauman. I am picking it up tomorrow.

I think it will be a great semester! :yeah:

Specializes in Psychiatric, Med-Surg, Operating Room.

I earned a B which isn't surprising. The highest I think I got on any test was an 86. Still I'm happy and it's 1 more pre-req that is out of the way. Now I just have to take this computer course in summer 1 and then I will officially done with all my pre-reqs.

Well, grades finally came in I got an A !!!!:lol2::yeah::clown:

I ended up with a 98% I can't believe it. Now I just have to wait until june to see if the hard work paid off! :)

yay!! ended with an a!!!!:yeah::yeah::yeah::lol2::lol2::lol2:

super-duper excited. all my pre-req's done and my application is sent. i should know by mid-july if i have a spot.

good luck to everyone out there!!!

Specializes in ICU / PCU / Telemetry / Oncology.
We also had done our own throat cultures (gagtastic!) and swabs taken from various parts of our bodies. My elbow had some awesome gram neg rods on it!

I sort of forgot about the swabs we did on our bodies, we did do throat and skin cultures. But urine tests were also involving fake urine. How does someone make fake urine! not fun

I loved micro. it was such a great class. but i was also so happy to finish as it was really hard..some people in my class didnt pass one test..the teacher was like really hard...i was sooooo happy to get an A!! Im starting nursing classes in Aug cant wait!!!

Did anyone have to do an unknown test?

Specializes in Psychiatry.
Did anyone have to do an unknown test?

Yeah, my class did. We had only worked with half dozen or so bacteria throughout the semester and our unknown was one of those. It was too easy... I was hoping for something a bit more indepth. I ended up with S. aureus and P. vulgaris.

And got my final grades in.... 181/200 on the exam and final grade of an A :smokin:

I'm totally gonna miss that class

We had an unknown-everyone's was different and we did tests on it all throughout the semester. I remember thinking I would never find out what mine was! It ended up being Shigella (or I hope so lol! Still haven't gotten our grades back yet) which was one we didn't even go into depth on at all! Also, my original gram stain was incorrect! I was thinking all along it was gram positive but then it grew on MacConkey's lol I am pretty sure I got an A unless I did AWFUL on my notebook, unknown and final (which were all on the last day of class so we don't know our grades yet)

Hope you get your A..I got an A although i was a bit frustrated with the unknown..our cultures were either contaminated, old, or most likely mislabeled..so most of us got it wrong from the section of bacteria that had the issue..we all told the teacher something was wrong and even even agreed that it was prob mislabeled..so anyway we didnt get credit..i still got my A so I was happy but that was a little frustrating because he knew it was not our fault and some people really needed that grade but yeah sucks lol..otherwise i loved the class

Specializes in Hematology/Oncology.

just got my grade back "b-"...wished i'd done better though. my prof was very cool...i digitally recorded all my labs & lecture classes, listened/played back repeatedly, driving to & from work...was really tough !!! now for fall 2010 i have to re-take bio 150 (the first bio class in my first semester that i got a "c" in...i still have all the notes and everything, so thiers no reason why i shouldn't pull an "a" this time. then that's it for pre-reqs...pray for me guyz...:saint:

So did you figure out what this was? I have this same scenario and was thinking maybe she rubbed the bite and caused cellulitis caused by staphylococcus aureus??
