I am getting ready to get engaged and since I am in nursing school I want to get a metal that will stand up to the crazy amounts of hand washing I will be doing. I dont want my ring or diamonds to dull. Does anyone have any advice for me??

Frequent handwashing doesn't effect gold or platinum. But bacteria can hide in the crevices and gaps in the set under the diamonds and under the band between skin and metal.. And the set tears latex gloves all the time so all around it is better to leave rings at home.

i dont wear my engagement ring to work. you never know what kind of bugs and gook can get stuck in there. i would recommend getting whatever metal you want, and just leave it at home when you're working.. that way you wont be taking any suprises home, or giving them to patients. congratulations on getting engaged!! :)

I gotta agree with everybody else, leave your beautiful new ring at home. I don't wear my wedding ring at work at all anymore. I know one person mentioned the gloves getting messed up by your ring, but also, the ring gets messed up by the gloves, my diamond was loose because the prongs were getting loosened by the constant gloving on and off. Another nurse on my floor lost her diamond completely because the prongs were loosened by gloves. Congrats by the way!

SBK..leave your diamonds at home babe..they will get either lost, tarnished and harbour germs, which you will take home, no matter how hard you try to clean your precious ring.

Congratulations to you and your sweetheart! May your life together be filled with luck and love!!!:icon_hug:

I don't know what the deal is about wearing a ring, even for relationship purposes (especially knowing what I know about relationships by now). I would avoid any complications at all by not wearing it to school or work. Wedding ring or any other kind of ring, it will harbor bacteria, unless you want to get one made of silver.

i don't have any diehard opinions about whether to wear your ring at work, or not.

what i do suggest, however, is to start your marriage, expecting the very best.

and so, you should definitely get platinum...

and at the least, a couple of carats, as an accent.

but a high solitaire, will get caught in stuff at work.

wishing you both the very best of everything.:balloons:

geez.......i'm sorry you've had relationship problems, but must you rain on her parade? or anyone else's for that matter? i'm on my second marriage and refuse to take my ring off. i have it cleaned on a regular basis.

Depends on where you work too. Wear your wedding band and keep the big diamond at home. Years ago, I knocked my new diamond out of the prones in surgery, but it wasn't lost.

I loved wearing my ring when I was married. Never did like jewelry much before that, but then I got some sparkleys and was mesmerized. Get something low set so that it will not snag on things, if you really want to wear a ring to work. Congrats!
