Hi everyone! I just wanted all you woman in nursing, to share your thoughts on men being in the nursing field?

OMG! You mean there are actually MEN in nursing?! Eeeek!

Seriously, most professions have all genders working side by side together, nursing included. Most nurses couldn't care less if you are male, female, or have three arms coming out of your head as long as you do your job. Why should you care about what we think of you as a man?

My thought is that as long as the person can do the job I don't care if it's a man or a woman or a leprechaun. Ok, maybe a leprechaun would have a hard time what with being vertically challenged and all but other than that, I don't care what the gender is.

My unit has 300 RNs (298 female, 2 male). I work with 30-40 female RNs each shift, plus female RTs and Docs and they see me as a coworker and I see them as coworkers, not male nurse and female nurse. It is truly a non-issue. Would you ask the same question in an accounting message board?

To steal a line from another poster on a similar thread:

My view on men in nursing is usually up their nose because they're taller than me.

Other than that, I see them no differently than I do my female coworkers. We're a team.

Hi everyone! I just wanted all you woman in nursing, to share your thoughts on men being in the nursing field?
I think the presence of more men in nursing would have positive outcomes, such as increased pay. To be blunt, the female-dominated professions tend to not pay as much as other occupations.
