Hey ya'll!
I am new to allnurses and just was curious what everyones usernames mean. I know there are previous thread for this but I figured there have been some username changes and new members since then.
As you can see my username is Flightless and its just short for flightless bird AKA penguin which are my favorite animal lol I had a hard time trying to pick a username that was unique but didn't give me away! Haha!
So lets hear it!
explorereb96 My first "new" car was a 1996 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer. It was beautiful new. When my kids were growing up they wanted to go camping, fishing, and hiking etc. We started doing all those things. One time when we went camping, we happened to be camping in an off-road park. We were in the middle of an off road Jeep Jamboree event with all of the off road equipped vehicles. We were invited "to see what a grocery getter Ford Explorer " was capable of. We had a blast. That was it... we were in it for the long haul. I bought an F150 and we "equipped" my Ford Explorer. I spent lots of time and money on that truck. We had many good times on the trails and rock climbing in it. Sadly, when my son was old enough to go to college, and despite telling him NOT to. He took it offroad to impress friends. He didn't really know how to use the selective locker (axle locking system) in it and he barely made it out of the truck alive. It was in flames, rolling down the hill. He also burned an acre of trees surrounding the area. The fire deptmant wasn't happy
My username and my avatar commemorate the Victory of Lepanto known as "The Battle that Saved the Christian West." The Battle of Lepanto was a naval engagement taking place on 7 October 1571 in which a fleet of the Holy League, a coalition of European Catholic maritime states arranged by Pope Pius V decisively defeated the fleet of the Ottoman Empire on the northern edge of the Gulf of Corinth, off western Greece.
This Turkish defeat stopped Ottomans' expansion into the Mediterranean, thus maintaining western dominance, and confidence grew in the west that Turks, previously unstoppable, could be beaten.
The victory for the Holy League was historically important not only because the Turks lost over 200 ships and 20,000 men killed (not including 12,000 Christian galley slaves who were freed), but because the victory heralded the end of Turkish supremacy in the Mediterranean.
Mines kind of sad. My spouse died in 2011 after a horrible two years terminally ill. I was a housewife 21 years. I had to figure out a way to support myself pretty quick and while applying for nursing programs I became a CNA. When life gives you lemons you make what? So yeah I was a lemonaide :) I'm now an RN
