In Philippine culture, Juan de la Cruz is traditionally used as the characterization of the Filipino every day man. The character is most often portrayed in newspaper editorial cartoons wearing traditional Filipino male attire. The name came about because both "Juan" as a first name and "de la Cruz" as a last name are very prevalent in the Philippines, sort of like the equivalent of "John Smith" or "John Doe" in the US. It is my way of paying homage to my Filipino-American heritage.

Specializes in Oncology (Prior: Ortho-Neuro, Metabolic Surgery).

New username, new avatar, new post. :) I had been using my online gaming name as my AllNurses identity, but I thought it was time for nursing stuff to have a name of its own.

Ioreth is the name of the healer in the House of Healing in Lord of the Rings. She's the one that told Gandalf "The hands of a king are the hands of a healer." I will never have the hands of a king (not my temperament), but I do hope to have the hands of a healer. My new avatar is the flag of Gondor.

Yes, I am a geek. :D

Specializes in Community, OB, Nursery.

I don't know if I replied to this. But I just came up with the screen name out of nowhere. It doesn't mean anything.

I started out with a different screen name but decided to change it when I knew people could identify me by it.

Bonus points to anyone who remembers what my first screen name was!

Can you help me find a reference to this poem? I love poetry, all kins, and have not been able to find this. I did find reference to the Seven Woods. Is that the same poem? Thanks for your help!!

Yes you figured it out Billswife! It's "In the Seven Woods." "I have heard the pigeons of the Seven Woods...." I guess I could've been "The Fool by the Roadside" or "Crazy Jane on the Day of Judgment" but I don't want yall to think I'm a lunatic!
