Hi guys!
I was hoping to get to know some of the people that will be applying to the Spring 12 nursing program.
I've been following the MDC Fall 2011 =) thread and I'm super excited for them, but now I'm even more excited since this time it's finally me who is applying to the nursing program.
So...who else is applying???? :redbeathe
Hey Neyla, There are a lot of things that will be required. I will list them here, but I think your best bet will be to go to the MDC Fall 2011 thread with a pen and notebook, start around May when the applications were due, and start going through the whole thread. You'll see the progression of the process from the waiting period to the time the acceptance e-mails went out, to getting these steps done, through orientation and starting school. This will fill you in on different ways and places to get this stuff done, and how much it will cost. To go over it quickly, you need: - To send a response form indicating you are accepting your seat in the program -$100 Deposit (only to be paid when you accept your seat in the program) - CPR/BLS Cert - $75 at MDC -Level 2 Criminal Background Screen - $58 at link that Yisy shared - 5-panel Drug screen -Physical exam - MDC will provide a form to be filled out by the doctor doing the exam -MMR titers (these are blood tests for immunity to Measles, Mumps and Rubella) -TWO consecutive TB tests performed within the last month I don't want to say for sure, but my guess is that all this will cost in the range of $400. This obviously doesn't include books, uniform, shoes, supplies, etc.

This is my first time applying as well and to be fair you don't have to do all the things we are saying, at least not quite yet. These things are supposed to be done once we get the acceptance letters. However, there are some of us that have applied before or read the MDC Fall 2011 thread, and that's how we know what we will have to do once we get accepted. In my case I think that I'm anticipating myself a little bit. I even bought the shoes for the clinicals already
But everything I'm doing will be worthless if I don't get accepted. In my opinion if you are almost sure that you will get in, you could start doing these things to be a step or two ahead of your game. But if you have doubts or are unsure I think that you shouldn't be expending that money unless money it's not a problem for you.
Supposedly, we will have time to do all these things once the letter are sent.
By this I'm not saying that you shouldn't start doing all that stuff, or trying to discourage you in any way. I just want you to be well informed.
Good luck!
I just received an email about my registration date, but nothing yet about acceptance. Is the acceptance supposed to come before the registration date?
There's not really any definite word on that, but no one else has gotten anything either, to my knowledge.
Also, with no one admitted to this semester of nursing school yet, classes won't fill up, so we're in the clear. Welcome aboard, BTW!
A friend of mine called today to the Medical campus and they told him that they will be sending the letter by the end of this month. They change stories everyday. I don't know what to believe anymore.
BrandonT: Don't worry about registration. Once we get accepted they will register us for the classes. Sadly, in nursing we cannot choose neither the professors or the schedules. They do it for us!
Good Luck and welcome to the thread!
Hey everyone,
I introduced myself a while back, but I never really posted again so I'll reintroduce myself. I am applying to accelerated and generic. my scores are 2.75 gpa and 88.7 TEAS. I am hoping that my TEAS score will get me in since I have been reading that the TEAS scores this year were lower than usual. I have been following and reading this thread for quite a while, but I never posted anything. I read a few posts back that someone mentioned that it's only fair that everyone who is reading should post and I think it's true. I have been following along for quite a while and reading the thread really helps me cope with the ANTICIPATION and anxiety of waiting for our letters!!! So I owe it to you guys to post back! Thanks!
The only info that I can contribute about our acceptance letters is old info. When I applied, I asked the adviser, I forget her name, when I should expect an acceptance and she said that their goal is to have them out to us the LATEST, before thanksgiving break.... so that seems to be a reasonable time line.... that gives us a month and a half once we get accepted to sort out our preliminary stuff...
I am not spending any money doing the CPR classes or buying anything until I get accepted because I really think with my scores that I am on the fence... I am dying to find out because I don't want to continue working in my current job for the rest of my life, so I am in desperate need of a career change and I am sure nursing is the career for me!
BrandonT... the registration letter you received is a generic letter everyone should get once they are "active" in the MDC system. Meaning you are taking classes or admissions has you listed as accepted. Accepted does not mean accepted into the nursing program, but accepted into MDC as a regular student which we are or will all be at one point in time....
Well, good luck everyone! Keep posting because I think it keeps us ALL SANE! Hope we all get in.
Dpargas01,
I applied to the generic F/T and P/T. I would rather the F/T but I am eager to begin the program so I will accept whatever I can get. How about you? What did you apply for and what where your scores like. I don't like to intrude on people's privacy, but I ask your scores because once we start seeing people post they received an acceptance letters we may all gauge what are the acceptance score and if or not we are to expect acceptance into the program.
