  1. Hey guys, I haven't posted in a while, but the last time I posted we were talking about getting negative titer results. I went to my dr to get the varicella vaccine and I have to go again at the end of the month. A week later, they will redraw my titer and then I will be submitting my results to MDC. I didnt call myself to see what they said when I asked them, but I am going off of the info you guys posted. I asked my doc to write on the form that she administered the vaccine to me so that whoever is working on my form can see that I am in the process of getting my varicella done... I have insurance and it only costed me the copay. The vaccines and TB tests were all free for me and I am over 18. So I guess it depends on your insurance. I have coventry open HMO.
  2. Blissberry!!! I am now coming on the site for a few days. That's great that you will be taking the course on Saturday. Hope to see you there!! I don't know how to PM on here so my email is [email protected]. It would be great to get your real name and maybe what u plan to wear so I can spot you in the class. Does anyone know what will happen if one of your titers came back negative. I apparently never got the varicella vaccine, so I got my 1st dose yesterday. But my antibody concentration won't be high enough til I get the SECOND dose of the vaccine which is ALL the way at the end of Novemeber, after orientation. I'm a little worried as to what they will say since I technically won't be "prepared" and set to go by orientation day... BTW thank you SOOOOO MUCH Neyla for posting that info about the drug screen. I absolutely did NOT see that. I will get that sorted out now! That really was a HUGE SAVE you did there for me and I'm sure MANY others!! :)
  3. Congrats to all those who have just gotten their acceptance e-mails! I know the wait must have been SO PAINFUL! Georla, CONGRATS especially to you since you are part of the accelerated crew! I hope you can get all your medical stuff sorted out. As a heads up to you and anyone going to take the drug test, make sure u drink LOTS of water before you get there. I went to the lab to take the drug test and the lady told me I had to FILL UP the cup with urine!!! And it was a HUGE CUP!! I sat there drinking and drinking water, but i guess the pressure got to me and I couldn't pee on command! lmao!!! it was incredibly ironic since I swear I diagnose myself with an overactive bladder syndrome. lolzzz... ok i know that was a bit of a personal and weird story to break the ice, but just be prepared! Btw, i went to LabCorp... Blissberry, Unfortunately I can't get around it because I don't live in Miami-Dade so I can't even qualify for it. They told me to apply at the Broward office and the Broward office is a lot more strict. I don't think it will work out, but i'll still give it a try. The funny thing is, I was on unemployment for the summer since I was surplused with the Broward County Public Schools budget cut. BUT, I tried hard and long and got myself employed this school year, and now I'm finding out that if I hadn't tried, and I worked the system I would have gotten this nursing program paid for! And I been bustin my butt, putting up with these kids to pay my way through this program! lolzzz... i'm not mad cuz i'm happy to be a productive citizen, it's just ironic to me how I could have worked the system and got it all laid out for me... lolzzz... On a LIGHTER note, I am going to the CPR class in North campus on Saturday. Anyone else going?!?!?
  4. Blissberry, I haven't been on here for a lil while, so I couldn't reply to your post. I'm SOOO happy that you found out accelerated is paid for! WOW! that makes me incredibly excited! And I'm happy that you chose accelerated now! I look forward to seeing you at the orientation! I am going to call on Monday to find out more info, but what did you mean that they have to make sure that you really can't find a job? Aren't you working? I am, but I won't be in January. I will be leaving my job. Will "leaving" a perfectly good job disqualify me from the scholarship? I'm sorry to bombard you with questions that I should ask when I call them, but I'm eager to know! jkay5 - welcome and congrats!!! there are only a few of us on here that are doing the accelerated route. Do you mind sharing what u did your bachelor's in?
  5. Blissberry, Could you tell us some more info that you found out about the workforce scholarship? I wanted to go to the orientation, but I could not get off work. What is the deadline to apply. What are they looking for? Are they covering accelerated students? Any info you can give me will be GREATLY appreciated until I can work out something to get to the orientation. :)
  6. Well I went in today to accept my accelerated seat. So there is now one FT Generic seat open for someone since I declined that today! yisy4u thanks for the info. I went and got the background screening today! It was like everyone said, SUPER easy and quick. I went to the hialeah office and I took 10 mins. No line. No waiting. No appointment. Cohen thank you SOOOO MUCH for putting the CPR website up. That helped me out so much! Ur a lifesaver! I scheduled a CPR class for 11/5 at north campus. Also, I'd like to reiterate what someone said about getting to blue forms to make your down payment. I went to the medical campus and I had to do the same thing. So go to the new student center and get a blue form to pay the nursing student deposit and then go to the bursar's office with that blue form to pay. Dolfinz562 welcome to accelerated! I did it for the same reason. Quicker to finish, quicker to work. The only thing I've left to do is get my vaccines and go to my CPR class!
  7. WELCOME to the thread AnaB333!! There are only a few accelerated ppl on here so we're excited to see you! yisy4u How did you get your background screening done so quickly? The only appointment date that works for me is the day OF orientation because I can't get time off work. I have an important question for you though. I noticed when I went to make my background screening appointment that they asked if you were a citizen. Do they ask you for any kind of proof of citizenship or residency or anything? I am a bit worried because I lost my passport and I never applied for my certificate of citizenship so I have no proof of citizenship at the moment. I applied to get my certificate of citizenship, but it may not come until late December to January. Because of this I can't even get financial aid at the moment! Did you have to submit any residency or citizenship documentation? Blissberry, I don't mean to burst your bubble, but i really do not think the accelerated students are eligible for that scholarship. I do not know for sure of course, but that is what I have heard. I'm so sad if you're not going to take the accelerated route! But by all means, I completely understand why!
  8. Jael11 WELCOME to the thread and CONGRATS!!! AlexLL what an AWESOME birthday gift!!!! HAPPY Birthday and CONGRATS!!!! Dpargas01 - You got into accelerated?!?! Congrats!!! Me too!! There aren't many accelerated applicants on here so I'm excited to see that you joined us. Blissberry - CONGRATS!!!!! have you decided what you are going to choose? no pressure but accelerated is the way to go! (lol) It's awesome to hear that you got into UM with scholarship and everything! WOW that is amazing! But it is SO true that you need to pursue your passion. One of the best things about my acceptance is being able to resign from my job. I am a Biology and Anatomy teacher at a high school in Broward and after working as a teacher for a few years, and realizing how much of your life is molded around your job, I am determined to do nursing! Teaching really isn't my love, but nursing... it really is! I'm sooooooo EXCITED!!! pick accelerated! pick accelerated! lolz
  9. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I got ACCEPTED into accelerated AND generic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i don't havee time right now to read all your posts but I will be back to reply u blissberry.... AHHHHHHHH!!!!! Good luck to those of you who are still awaiting! I am probably gonna turn down generic so one generic FT spot will be opened up!
  10. blissberry, i did my bachelor's in biology. that's why i am kind of upset with the way the accelerated program does its selection. i think having a science background should count for something. my prerequisite gpa is low because i took those classes in my sophmore year which was not such a good year for me. but if they looked at the higher level science classes i have taken like biochemistry and cellular and molecular biology and my grades in them and my overall science gpa, they would see that i definitely deserve a spot! but what can i do! hopefully i get in. what about you blissberry? what did you do your bachelor's in? p_funk, i completely agree that this thread is like therapy and the anticipation is getting to all of us! lol! we're almost there! keep yourself super busy for the next two weeks! that's what i am going to do to cope with this!
  11. BLISSBERRY!!!!!! I applied to accelerated! I didn't realize there were so few accelerated applicants on this thread. I think that is a REALLY GOOD thing! Less applicants means less conpetition! lol! just outa curiosity, what are your numbers? I got 88.7 on TEAS but a 2.75 GPA in my prerequistes. My overall GPA is a 3.5 according to MDC, but of course no one looks at that so I am REALLY WORRIED! NOVEMBER 15 is our ORIENTATION!!! I'm soooo excited to find that out. If they have an orientation date so soon, it means the decisions should be out soon for sure! Nov. 15 is sooner than the deadline I gave MDC in my head which was thanksgiving break since that was the deadline the adivsor told me when I applied. We're almost there guys!!! Wish everyone luck!!!!! Just pray! :)
  12. Neyla, Don't worry, you weren't pushy at all. Just like P_Funk said, it was selfish of us to just read and not contribute to the thread. We were benefiting from reading the thread, so it was only right that we contribute to it. And P_Funk stated it well... you gave us that nudge to start posting... On an inspirational note, as much as I applied to MDC's nursing program because it was cost-effective and convenient, there is also a feeling out there that the nurses that come out of MDC are of a high quality. I have had several co-workers whose parents or relatives ended up in the hospital over the summer, and when they came into contact with a nurse they were impressed with, they would ask them where they went to school. Time and time again, they found that the nurses they liked came from MDC. So for all of us who are waiting to get in, WHEN we do, we should all be proud. MDC nurses seem to have a good reputation. :)
  13. Hey everyone, I introduced myself a while back, but I never really posted again so I'll reintroduce myself. I am applying to accelerated and generic. my scores are 2.75 gpa and 88.7 TEAS. I am hoping that my TEAS score will get me in since I have been reading that the TEAS scores this year were lower than usual. I have been following and reading this thread for quite a while, but I never posted anything. I read a few posts back that someone mentioned that it's only fair that everyone who is reading should post and I think it's true. I have been following along for quite a while and reading the thread really helps me cope with the ANTICIPATION and anxiety of waiting for our letters!!! So I owe it to you guys to post back! Thanks! The only info that I can contribute about our acceptance letters is old info. When I applied, I asked the adviser, I forget her name, when I should expect an acceptance and she said that their goal is to have them out to us the LATEST, before thanksgiving break.... so that seems to be a reasonable time line.... that gives us a month and a half once we get accepted to sort out our preliminary stuff... I am not spending any money doing the CPR classes or buying anything until I get accepted because I really think with my scores that I am on the fence... I am dying to find out because I don't want to continue working in my current job for the rest of my life, so I am in desperate need of a career change and I am sure nursing is the career for me! BrandonT... the registration letter you received is a generic letter everyone should get once they are "active" in the MDC system. Meaning you are taking classes or admissions has you listed as accepted. Accepted does not mean accepted into the nursing program, but accepted into MDC as a regular student which we are or will all be at one point in time.... Well, good luck everyone! Keep posting because I think it keeps us ALL SANE! Hope we all get in.
  14. Hi everyone, I am also applying for Spring 2012 both accelerated and generic. I'm so nervous because my GPA is pretty low, less than a 3.0, but I got an 89% on the TEAS... I sent in my app last week. Just waiting to hear from them now! Just to verify with you guys. What classes are they using to calculate your GPA? I wish everyone luck!
