Hi guys!
I was hoping to get to know some of the people that will be applying to the Spring 12 nursing program.
I've been following the MDC Fall 2011 =) thread and I'm super excited for them, but now I'm even more excited since this time it's finally me who is applying to the nursing program.
So...who else is applying???? :redbeathe
Hello everyone hope you guys had a great weekend!
On eagles wings,
Your post was awesome! Thanks for the advise! I am actually a mother of 2 and I do worry that when I start the program I am not going have as much time as they need. Thanks for addressing this subject, I am sure a few of us have children and now thanks to your post we know it is possible to manage through the program with good grades and still have family time. In additon all the info on how to prepare is very usefull.
You are the best!!!:stdnrsrck:
BTW Yisy,
I have no idea if there will be a part time program for the spring, but when the advisor took my application she encouraged me to fill one out for the part time program so I did. Who knows if in fact it exist
on eagles wings,
you are awesome!!! this is what we need, someone who was one of us and is actually in the program who can give us the real facts and details.
You have no idea how much i appreciate it (i'm sure everyone here feels the same)
i have been a little nervous, unsure of what its going to be like and what i could possibly do to start off on the right foot.
you have definitely helped!
please feel free to continue to post your experiences with us!
we are going to currently live through you :):yelclap:
guys don't mention it. i am just doing the same thing others ahead of me have done to help me.
as for the books on the list, this is what you need for first semester:
1. get your drug guide, taber's dictionary, and the lab book. we haven't used them in class per se, but taber's is my go-to for everything. you will use all of these in clinical.
2. you must use your fundamentals book. don't try to survive with just powerpoints.
3. you must get your assessment book. get the pocket assessment book too, used online for 8.99 on amazon. you will love it for clinical or even to use in practice lab.
4. DO NOT GET application of the nursing process or whatever its called. we will never use it.
5. yes, you will use your med-surg book in first semester, specifically in clinical. we haven't used it anywhere else.
6. depending on your teacher, they will tell you which edition of the medical dosage calc book you can get... the older version has an awesome CD but the new version has none. however, both have excellent companion websites and are free for anyone.
here is the link on all the info I could find on MDC website. http://www.mdc.edu/main/nursingadmit/accelerated.asp
The accelerated orientation is Nov 15 9am-3pm, and then there is the ATI testing next day, the 16th 1pm-4.30pm
