May 2009 Graduates!!! Do you have a job yet?

Published

I was just curious if everyone is finding jobs? I personally only applied for one hospital as there are 4 within 30 miles from me, but the one I applied for is the closest. Everyone in my class including myself started applying in January and most of us interviewed in Feb. I haven't got a call yet but they said they would be calling this week....I am crossing my fingers!!!

Anyhow I know that everyone around here is pretty much not having a problem but I didn't know what it was like in other areas.

Whats the pay like?

benifits?

reimbursements?

The position I applied for actually is on the lower end of the pay scale, but the benefits and reimbursement outway what the other hospitals offer. So what factors did you calculate when finding your first job as an GN.

I graduate in May, and I just accepted a position in Ft. Worth that starts in June. :yeah:

I also graduate in May and have accepted a full time permanent position on a medical floor on which I did my senior practicum! I am still waiting impatiently for my grad license which should be here any day.

WOW! This is a little scary..or wayy scary!!! I am currently working on my RN (Associate's Degree) and since I am reading all of these posts I am wondering if I should just push for my RN Bachelors. Do you think that they would much rather hire someone with an RN and her Bachelor's than with an Associates. I am currently working on my prerequisites. Good luck to all of you, I hope that you all find something. God Bless.:redpinkhe

I am graduating with an Associates Degree in Nursing, no problem finding work. But I don't know how it is going for others.

does anyone have any input on army nursing? if i don't get a job offer in a week or two i'm seriously considering joining....i've spoken with a nurse recruiter, and heard his side, now i'm wondering if anyone out there has any personal experience....thanks in advance!

You might want to post your question in the Military Nurse forum: https://allnurses.com/government-military-nursing/

They are a friendly bunch and can answer all your questions. :)

Yes I got an internship in the E.R. I have to move to another state but I am ok with that.

I will be graduating in may never bothered to apply anywhere planning on stayingput in my current job that i work at as a cna.

im hearing horror stories from people who have grad. in dec. and are still jobless with impending loan repayments!

would really like to change facilities since i would rather be on a more med-surg floor but most postive no one was hiring around me

maybe ill move..... does anyone know an area will to take the time to train a new grad??

Texas

I also graduate in May and cannot find a job - toying with the idea of moving, but as time goes by the areas that are hiring seem to disappear. So as of right now is Texas pretty much the best (only) option? Are there particular areas that are better than others - it is a big state and I know nothing about any of it.

Are nursing homes hiring new grad RN's? - has anyone found anything going that route. I really don't know where to go from here.

Look, I know most of you are very good and have great resumes etc. But do sit down and do a serious self examination. Do you really interview well? Those doing the hiring have tons of experience with hiring and they can be pretty discerning.

I agree with older nurses and instructors who say they have seen tough job markets before. Why? Because we have had many tough job markets.

Just because there are people in recent years past who were offered 10 NG positions with lots of benefits plus flowers doesn't mean you should ever have expected the same reception.

so, do that self exam, take a look around and do what you have to do. I commuted 100 miles for my first job. I found a room in Portland during my work week. Heck, after 6 months I was hired in my home town. There were 30 unemployed nurses from my graduating class out of 50 graduates sitting in their little home town waiting for something to open up. I made the sacrifice in 1974 and was working before most others and many had much better grades, better work experience during nursing school.

Good luck, if you want it it will come. BUT, you have to do your part!

MomofStudent...You are SO RIGHT. From my experience in nursing school, it seems as though a lot of my classmates are just expecting the flood gates to open and the jobs to come pouring out. It's tough out there!

yup, moving from Boston to DC, new grad program in a NICU...cant wait for graduation :-)

I cannot find any jobs in hospitals around Philadelphia. I haven't start looking into nursing homes yet.

So far I have only one interview scheduled - out of state.

Finally got a job today~Finally! Strange how it works, got a job offer same day I scheduled an interview for somewhere else.
