pros/cons of psych nursing?
Thanks for all the responses. So far I've landed 2 interviews in psych - but they're not sure when the positions will be actually open, because of the financial reasons. We shall see.

It is a very good idea. Unfortunately, I just finished my RN education, and in this situation no hospital would hire me below and RN position (I checked). There could be an exemption to that rule in couple of hospitals somewhere in the country, but it would be like looking for a needle in a haystack. Thanks again, Ilya

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, I appreciate you taking the time to respond. Information that somebody else got a job does not really do anything for me, but if you could specify the hospital, or at least the area, that would be some kind of help. I was trying to be very polite, even though I was treated as a complete moron in couple of posts. Maybe because I am foreign and a male? I thanked everybody for help and followed leads. Good leads and ideas was what I was looking for when coming to this OR forum. Advice such as "just send resumes to everybody" is not really helpful. I haven't seen a hospital in the US that would not require sending an application online. In addition, any person who is able to complete an RN program is typically quite intelligent and knows about an invention of a resume. In my RN school, we had special career classess on resume writing and interviewing. In fact, I already interviewed for jobs. It has been my experience that sending a specific resume, to a specific place, and following up is one of the best ways to get an interview. Respectfully, Ilya

Yes, looked into AORN web site (I am a member). Pretty much everybody requires experience, but I was able to find (very few) places.

Sorry, I was not trying to attack Linda. And yes, I am frustrated. I keep applying. I did not cover the whole country yet, of course. Ilya

Linda, don't take it the wrong way. I appreciate your comments.

Thanks, I visited their web site. They require at least 1 year of OR experience. I left a message with the nursing recruiter. I.

Linda, believe or not, there are not that many hospitals that are willing to spend thousands of $$$ and six months to train a new nursing graduate in the OR - the economy is quite tough. Many places cancelled their programs. I know that, because I DO SEND THOSE RESUMES.

Linda, no hospital will hire an RN as a surgical tech. At least in Pennsylvania.

pros/cons of psych nursing?
The state facility is pretty bad, I had my clinicals over there. If I can't find anything else...

I already spoke to them. They require citizenship (I don't have it), and BSN (I'll have associate, and my degree from another field does not help). VA or any government job is out as well.
