  1. Thanks for all the responses. So far I've landed 2 interviews in psych - but they're not sure when the positions will be actually open, because of the financial reasons. We shall see.
  2. Already applied, thanks for the lead.
  3. It is a very good idea. Unfortunately, I just finished my RN education, and in this situation no hospital would hire me below and RN position (I checked). There could be an exemption to that rule in couple of hospitals somewhere in the country, but it would be like looking for a needle in a haystack. Thanks again, Ilya
  4. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, I appreciate you taking the time to respond. Information that somebody else got a job does not really do anything for me, but if you could specify the hospital, or at least the area, that would be some kind of help. I was trying to be very polite, even though I was treated as a complete moron in couple of posts. Maybe because I am foreign and a male? I thanked everybody for help and followed leads. Good leads and ideas was what I was looking for when coming to this OR forum. Advice such as "just send resumes to everybody" is not really helpful. I haven't seen a hospital in the US that would not require sending an application online. In addition, any person who is able to complete an RN program is typically quite intelligent and knows about an invention of a resume. In my RN school, we had special career classess on resume writing and interviewing. In fact, I already interviewed for jobs. It has been my experience that sending a specific resume, to a specific place, and following up is one of the best ways to get an interview. Respectfully, Ilya
  5. Somehow I missed that, I applied for Wakemed in Raleigh area. I'll check again.
  6. Thanks, I will check them out.
  7. Yes, looked into AORN web site (I am a member). Pretty much everybody requires experience, but I was able to find (very few) places.
  8. Thanks, I'm looking into that.
  9. Sorry, I was not trying to attack Linda. And yes, I am frustrated. I keep applying. I did not cover the whole country yet, of course. Ilya
  10. Linda, don't take it the wrong way. I appreciate your comments.
  11. Thanks, I visited their web site. They require at least 1 year of OR experience. I left a message with the nursing recruiter. I.
  12. Linda, believe or not, there are not that many hospitals that are willing to spend thousands of $$$ and six months to train a new nursing graduate in the OR - the economy is quite tough. Many places cancelled their programs. I know that, because I DO SEND THOSE RESUMES.
  13. Linda, no hospital will hire an RN as a surgical tech. At least in Pennsylvania.
  14. The state facility is pretty bad, I had my clinicals over there. If I can't find anything else...
  15. I already spoke to them. They require citizenship (I don't have it), and BSN (I'll have associate, and my degree from another field does not help). VA or any government job is out as well.
  16. Thanks Chandra, I'll apply there.
  17. many...and I am still sending them out...so I bought the lottery tickets, now I have to help my luck a little bit many places cancelled they OR orientations for new graduates due to lack of money, however they did not update their web sites, and this is becoming very frustrating
  18. I can't do any VA or gov - not US citizen. State facility - I called them, they didn't want to talk to me until I get my RN license, the lady was sort of rude, so I don't know what to think. I am applying for one place in MD, but they told me that they had only one opening for new grad. I would be thankful for any leads that you could share.
  19. Linda, Thanks for your response, but I respectfully disagree. Your advice is (sort of) offending my intelligence :) Sending hundreds of resumes will not get your foot in the door in today's economy. You can get lucky, of course, but I haven't. Very few hospitals have OR training programs for new graduates. Sincerely, I.
  20. I have similar experiences. I think that male nursing should be a separate profession.
  21. I cannot exercise at home. Boring. I would advise everybody to sign up for a sport they like and have a coach. Usually martial art schools offer something challenging, not boring, and with a live coach that gives you some live advice. Besides, you have to go out and exercise with other human beings, even if it is only once a week. I could not do any exercise from DVD.
  22. I went there. From my perspective (graduating nurse) - it sucked. There was one nursing home in VA and one place in MD that could take me (maybe). Everywhere else: "sorry, get experience and call us."
  23. Saunders is the best.
  24. I am looking for hospitals anywhere in the country that have new grad with no experience openings in OR. Long specialty training is that what interests me the most. Thanks, I.
  25. I cannot find any jobs in hospitals around Philadelphia. I haven't start looking into nursing homes yet. So far I have only one interview scheduled - out of state.
