May 2009 Graduates!!! Do you have a job yet?

Published

I was just curious if everyone is finding jobs? I personally only applied for one hospital as there are 4 within 30 miles from me, but the one I applied for is the closest. Everyone in my class including myself started applying in January and most of us interviewed in Feb. I haven't got a call yet but they said they would be calling this week....I am crossing my fingers!!!

Anyhow I know that everyone around here is pretty much not having a problem but I didn't know what it was like in other areas.

Whats the pay like?

benifits?

reimbursements?

The position I applied for actually is on the lower end of the pay scale, but the benefits and reimbursement outway what the other hospitals offer. So what factors did you calculate when finding your first job as an GN.

Specializes in LTC, PCU, Med/Surg, Hospice, OBGYN.
I'm starting to apply now but the market is bare here (Iowa). Most places have job freezes or are laying off. It's pretty bad. I've been applying in hospitals in NC but have been hearing that it is bad out there too. I'm just so frustrated. I went back to school to be a Nurse in part because I wanted a secure job no matter where I went and now look at what's happening. But my instructor told me that she has seen this before and said that it will come back and get better, and that we will be okay. I hope she is right. I too am also one of the top students in my class and I speak Spanish fluently. You would think I'd have an advantage but everyone is struggling. Good luck to all and hang in there, we will see the light sooner or later. BE POSITIVE!!!

UPDATE: After losing my home to a flash flood in IA, I had decided to try in NC again but in person, even though I had been denied many a times before because they "don't have any openings for New Grads right now."

After a lot of hard work (networking and using connections) I'm ecstatic to inform you that I have gotten offered a full-time PCU position in a hospital in NC!!!:anpom::yeah::anpom:

Thank you all for your prayers! :bowingpur God is GRAND! Also, for those of you who still haven't found anything, please keep you head up and keep trying! I hope everyone of you find the job that is right for you soon!

Specializes in Mother Baby & pre-hospital EMS.

Congratulations to everyone who got a job!!

I officially received a job offer on July 31st. I am on a stroke floor, and it is going well so far. SO much to learn, and it's hard sometimes being new and trying to remember all that I have to do as a nurse, but I really like my preceptor and co-workers.

To everyone who is searching: do not give up!! I (technically) had 9-10 interviews before receiving a job offer.

Congratulations to the ones who found jobs! I applied at children's hospital for their March 2010 new grad program. I am nervous about the interview process. I am scared I might not do well. Has anyone here been interviewed at CHLA? What do they ask?? I really need to prepare. But then again, i dont even know if they are gonna call me for an interview.:crying2:

NOPE, I really wish I did, and I am starting to wonder if I ever will anytime soon. I applied to a NICU internship, which is my dream job, so I am hoping but not betting on getting this job.

You know same thing, hundreds of applicants and only a few openings so I can only pray, hope and wish, and pray a whole lot more!!

No hospital job yet. However this...

.... inspires me! :yeah:

I just had my 6th today, thinking it must be some record. I got the surprise of my life when I found out I am hopelessly terrible with interviews. None of the weeks of practice worked today. Next time, I'll do like Bobby boucher. I'm imagining my interviewer is a cuddly baby....

I did get a standing offer for an underpaid LTC position that I might just jump on when my seasonal money making scheme (aka flu shots) is over, and I'm eating my leather shoes. :p

i got my lvn licnece 25 septermber 2009 in cali4nia san jose........

and i apply atleast 25 nursing homes......covered all my area.......today is 27 october and so far have not recived even single call........

nursing jobs are no more in demands like before......

to get nursing job...hiring manager or don should be ur relative or ur close friends.......then easy for us to get job...

After graduating in April I accepted a job in my dream area (NICU) in Houston at the end of September. Today was my 2nd day of orientation. So thankful to start out where I know I have always wanted to be :loveya: Dont give up!
