May 2009 Graduates!!! Do you have a job yet?

Published

I was just curious if everyone is finding jobs? I personally only applied for one hospital as there are 4 within 30 miles from me, but the one I applied for is the closest. Everyone in my class including myself started applying in January and most of us interviewed in Feb. I haven't got a call yet but they said they would be calling this week....I am crossing my fingers!!!

Anyhow I know that everyone around here is pretty much not having a problem but I didn't know what it was like in other areas.

Whats the pay like?

benifits?

reimbursements?

The position I applied for actually is on the lower end of the pay scale, but the benefits and reimbursement outway what the other hospitals offer. So what factors did you calculate when finding your first job as an GN.

Specializes in ED, ICU, lifetime Diabetes Education.

I just recently got my start date and completed my pre-employment paperwork for hospital near me. I chose this hospital because I have experience first hand the excellent care that patients receive. All the employees from the surgeons to the cleaning staff are very friendly and courteous.

Specializes in ICU, Mother/Baby.

No job here in AL. The only ones from my class that have jobs are the ones that were techs during school. I have applied to 25 jobs and not one interview. More and more hospitals in the area are letting go RN's too so that makes it worse for us new grads!

Specializes in my patients.

I graduated in December, passed my boards in April (first try), and FINALLY start my new career in 2 weeks. Not quite the unit I wanted to be on but I'm happy for now!

Norhridge Hospital Telemetry Unit!!!!

Specializes in Med-Surg, Oncology, telemetry/stepdown.

I interviewed 2 weeks ago on a Med-Surg/Oncology floor where I completed a clinical rotation in my last semester..They offered me the job the next day! It is the exact shift I wanted (7P-7A, 2W/E per month), and I am already familiar with the unit and staff since I did clinicals there..

I feel extremely lucky to have found a position..about 80% of my class is still trying to get interviews..this area does not have much available right now..

Graduated May 2009, took NCLEX at the end of May and passed, will be starting at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) September 8th in the O.R. - my DREAM job! :)

Specializes in Pediatric CVICU.

wow. excellent. did you get a sign on bonus for OR? i work @ CHLA right now. thats a great rn residency program

No, unfortunately no sign on bonus (experienced OR RNs get one though!)

But yeah, I'm REALLY excited to start the program - the extensive training is what really drew me to CHLA in the first place! It seems like they really know how to invest in their employees!

How long have you been at CHLA?

Specializes in Step-down ICU.

I'm a May 2009 grad, have passed my NCLEX, officially an RN and no "RN" job yet. Still working as an aide....:o

Specializes in Trauma ICU, Peds ICU.

I start new grad at a level II trauma center in the San Francisco bay area on August 3rd!

I graduated from a BSN program in the East Bay on May 22nd and new grad jobs are really scarce here. I know people who graduated back in December and still haven't found work, and only 2 other grads of 60 from my class have found work. So, I'm counting my blessings right now.

I just found out I passed my boards today. I also got a job at the county jail. I would much rather be in a ICU internship but with this market I'm just happy to get employed.

NOPE---------------------Really wish I did....
