I think what's required of all politicians given their ability to affect so many people's lives, is a test called an EQ for empathy quotient. It would quickly and accurately identify sociopaths so they can be eliminated during voting except I think republicans are actually drawn to these pathological creatures!

Just read an article posted on Smerconish website regarding school district in Philadelphia suburb Central Bucks School district 2 counties over from my home. I learned that the Bucks County Health Dept has stopped tracking and reporting Covid-19 cases. While my County, Delaware is now reestablishing a County Health Department to tune of $10 million a year.
On one side of the debate are those aligned with science, facts, and safety. These parents and community members want a full, in-person return to school, with appropriate mitigation and safety measures in place, such as universal masking.
On the other side are those who choose to disregard scientific consensus, ignore recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), and insist that students return to school with no masking or mitigation in place. The group leading this charge is called “ReOpen Bucks,” which believes that “the excessive response to the COVID-19 pandemic is unwarranted and unlawful.” Above all else, they believe that mask mandates “propagate fear” and “tear down the social bonds” that keep them and their children together....
...Tragically, the ‘Health and Safety Plan’ proposed by the School District defied the medical recommendations from the CDC and the AAP. The only precaution the plan includes is three feet of separation between students. It does not enforce any form of mask mandates, no form of contact tracing, and no robust reporting system. The county health department has stopped tracking and reporting Covid-19 cases and will not require schools to conduct their own tracing or reporting. Without this accurate and timely data, the board will be unable to make necessary changes moving forward. Thus, many in the community have been left in a lurch, unable to ensure their kids will be safe, unwilling to risk serious illness or death, but needing their children in school...

I'll tell ya what; nothing is more harassing than a disease that makes our children sick, or God forbid, kills them. MASK THEM UP. I just don't care about feelings on this. My grandkids deserve better. Our schools are mandating here in WA state as they should. Where my grandkids are in Wisconsin, it remains a question. I will recommend most strongly that my DIL keep my granddaughter home if they decide masks are optional. Two baby siblings can't afford to get sick either.
Don't want your kids masked up? Fine keep them home. And I mean not just from school but other public venues, too.

It sounded like DeSantis (in his presser today) is promoting regeneron and monoclonal antibodies rather than masking and social distancing for the unvaccinated.

It's illegal to induce anyone to commit suicide... What's the difference between that and forcing someone to ingest poison or contract a potentially fatal virus? Can you have unprotected sex if you are HIV positive legally, without consequences? Should you be allowed outside without a vaccine, because you are essentially unprotected and I'm just trying to protect you from getting Covid. These are all legal arguments that can be used to force the un vaccinated.

I am just astounded by how many people there are that seem to have a firm and unshakable belief that the entire COVID pandemic is a fraud, that the presidential election was fake and that this was all invented to somehow gain control of "the people". There are so many different conspiracy theories on how COVID started, why it was started, what the ultimate goal of the great COVID conspiracy is and how that goal will be achieved. Used to be these were just fringe extremist groups that lived in their own little corner of the internet but it's become so normalized it's almost mainstream.
Not to mix politics with public health but honestly it's impossible not to since they really seem to go hand in hand. Those that believe the entire COVID pandemic is fake or at least that the risk is extremely exaggerated are almost invariably the same one's who believe the entire election was a fraud and the presidency was "stolen." What really truly scares me is how many of these people are elected officials with broad support bases.
Some believe the virus itself is just a giant hoax. Some might admit the virus is real but it's not nearly as bad as reported. Heck there's a not so small number of people that believe the virus is real, it was developed in a lab and that it was released upon the unsuspecting populace to somehow gain world domination! All these theories are equally bizarre and I truly don't get why so many people have jumped on the crazytrain.
