Maricopa Spring 2016 Block 1 students

Published

So we all should have heard weeks ago about our placement now I wanted to start a place for the preparation for Block 1.

I know Fall semester still needs to start and end before we can even get to block 1, but hey I'm to excited.

How is everyone doing getting situated for the universitys?

When is everyone thinking about starting the stuff that needs to be done for Maricopa (I.e. medical papers, titer tests, CPR)?

Thats not to bad almost the same as GCC. We don't have the psych books on are list right now. Like you said they can always change.

Ok, if we have a negative titer, do we need to have a full round of that particular vax done or just a booster? Mine came up negative for Hep B and Chickenpox. I've tried contacting my advisor at GW multiple times by phone and email and have gotten no response.

I believe that you have to have started the Hep B (i thinks it's a series) and get the chicken pox vaccine before classes start.

The only reason I know is because a friend of mine was told this when her titers came back negative.

I would keep trying to reach out to be totally sure.

You will need to start them. You have no immunity to them or you fell below the immunity level. As long as you are started on the hep b series, and have your first varicella (there may need to be 2 to complete the set) your good.

I know I need them before classes start. Totally understand that! I want to get them done ASAP, but it's hard to do with no answers. I'm just confused on whether or not I need a full series of both. I've had full series of the ones I received a negative titer on, so that's why I'm asking.

Hmmm. I would say yes in the end you need the full series.

The hep B series takes about 6 months to complete (I believe).

And I want to say the schools just want proof that you have started the process. So I would just start even before you get an answer from the school.

I agree with mrsbookworm.

If your titers came back negative than you are not immune and need to start over. Get # 1, and in 2 months #2, and after 4 months the final one.

There are no such thing as boosters for these vaccines. You probably didn't complete them per the schedule, that's why your immunity is not showing up. So get #1, and the varicella, and then like above, it shows you have started and the school will likely send you reminders for documentation to prove your continuing the series.

I wouldn't wait for the school.

Thanks guys! Anyone else getting frustrated with lack of answers? I get the advisors are busy, but they can't be so busy that they can't respond to an email really quick.

Yes! I feel for them, it sure seems like a tough and overwhelming job. I have often thought there should be more than one nursing advisor per school but I'm sure budget issues make that an unrealistic option.

So I was placed yesterday!!!! I got the email at work, and it threw me into a daze for the whole day until I could come home and celebrate appropriately. Placed at SCC for Spring 2016! It was my third choice but heck, I'll drive across town for a semester.

I was going to go for CEP but finances wouldn't allow for that, which is a bummer. My question is: after we receive the notification and reply back with our placement acceptance, what do we expect next? I'm caught up in vaccinations, background check was sent today and CPR is good since I work in the healthcare field, but I don't want to miss anything.

Congratulations!

I would suggest you start on your health and safety documentation packet and check with an advisor at SCC to see when you can register for class. You should be getting an email from the school soon with more information.
