LOOK the part?

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I know a gal....she has very recently 'changed her look'.

She is a ball to be around...everyone around her is comfortable.

She is a great nurse, full of positive energy, smart, good to the patients.

She magically became a bombshell, very blonde, very big hair, very pink mouth, nails, eyeshadow...

She bought many new pastel uniforms, wears funky shoes.

She rather looks like an ice-cream cone, as a kid in her hospital accurately told her.

The older patients constantly say things like, "are YOU a NURSE"?

Her work remains excellent. Her patients love her. Her coworkers love her.

Hospital admin.......lukewarm at best. She just smiles

Does a nurse really have to LOOK the part?:)

WE have a very liberal policy here on my unit. Now it must be said that i work in a children's center. WE can pretty much wear whatever we want as long as it's professional. But then again our director comes in wearing a miniskirt and see through blouse at times so i am thinking she has very little to say about how we dress.

If you are going to wear those thin white pants at least wear some pretty panties.

Yeah, I used to work with a nurse who--you could tell--wore a thong under her whites.....

JMP...no offense but maybe you need to lighten up a bit.

i dont see anyone picking on anyone else.

i too work with a beautiful nurse who is meticulous about her appearance. i think thats wonderful. she always looks great.

i enjoy having style with my nursing costume. i try to look my best at work all of the time.

but i have to tell you that i am very careful of what i wear. i dont know about the rest of you but i get more than my share of sexual comments made to me. i hate that but other than telling the pt to knock it off there isnt much you can do. im just not going to wear anything that might bring more of that on.

l.rae, zebra striped undies under the whites...LMAO!!! Reminds me of the time, in my younger years, the residents at the hospital threw a kicka$$ party, and my girlfriend and I went from the party to my house, freshened up a bit, and went to work at 7am. I didn't have any clean uniforms, so I put on an older white pantsuit, forgot all about the zebra striped bikini undies I was wearing from the night before....LOL!!! Kept wondering why all the guys were checking out my a$$, until one of my co-workers said, Linda, did you know you are wearing..... LOL!!!

At least you made them smile.....PANTY POWER ROCKS...LOL:D :roll ......LR

I think the Erin Brockovich movie says it all.You have to be who you are. I am glad to see white go-I have seen some nurses looking like an unmade bed wearing old stained white sweatshirts to work (they were white!) You can look good whatever you wear.I love the printed scrub tops and wear them with solid color pants.I wear a little makeup to smooth thtngs over. Patients do like to see you looking fresh and cheerful.

that I should take back my zip front mini dress and six inch heels?:roll Damn...:chuckle I personally find dark colors the best, as I can't get food within a six foot radius of me without it somehow ending up on the front of my shirt...And being able to tell what you had for lunch by the front of your shirt has got to be considered unprofessional, right?:D

I work with a nurse, insists on coming to work in white high heel shoes, miniskirt, a ton of makeup and her hair teased up. I think she has some sort of Media nurse fantasy of herself that she needs to keep up. Obviously it takes a lot of effort to look the way she does, but she looks so strange with the makeup all caked on. She's a good nurse and does a good job, but it's hard for families to keep a straight face when looking at her. She's not young either, wears a lot of perfume, goes to tanning booths all the time, to keep up the ''look". I can see the bunions on her feet under those tight, pointy shoes. She looks like a cartoon.

How does she run to a code in those shoes??

Specializes in LTC, ER, ICU,.

as i see it, there is nothing wrong with being neat and looking your best. we all know that this is preceived differently depending on the individual.

Unless you are a male!!!!!!

I think image is good, but what I really look for is the person.

The uniform does not make the nurse, the nurse makes the uniform.

I prefer my Birkenstock stilettos... ;)

A director I used to work for was telling us about a nurse who wore white pants and no underwear...a nurse with dark hair...

hehe ;)
