Hi there...anyone receive their letters to take the TEAS V for Golden West College for Fall 2011? Thought I would start a thread for those of us who did and may have questions for each other.
I'm scheduled to take TEAS 5 on Jun 30th at a different site. I'm a little nervous b/c I only studied the McGraw Hill Manual. I read some other threads which recommend the ATI manual since its format resembled the actual exam. I thinking of getting the ATI just for the reading comprehension. Is the reading comprehension passage short just like the McGraw Hill? Any suggesting to study for reading and english?
I am of no assistance whatsoever with regard to which manual to use. I used the ATI manual for the TEAS IV, which helped me absolutely none at all for the TEAS V I haven't even looked at the McGraw Hill Manual. I CAN tell you to make sure you bone up on your reading and grammar mechanics. Know nouns, verbs, pronouns, adverbs and the differences between them. The reading comprehension part mainly focused on being able to determine, for lack of a better word, the focus and intent of the passage you just read. The passages are a medium length. The only way I know to improve reading comprehension skill is to read more often.
Hey guys!
I'm planning on applying to Golden West for the 2012-2013 school year and just wanted some more information on the selection process. I understand that it is a lottery process, but how many qualified applicants are there typically? How many students are accepted for each semester?
Thank you so much!

I too would like information. What is the average GPA of applicant that are accepted?
Good luck to you guys! I know we're all waiting frantically. I am taking the TEAS V on Monday because I have to have it before I apply to Saddleback. I too hope those who didn't get in last year make it this year. For how hard we all work to get to this point of applying we really deserve it!!!
Yeah good luck to everyone! We all need it! This is my first year applying to GWC. I have applied to schools in Oregon for the last 2 years with no luck. They have pretty much gotten rid of lottery systems up there and my GPA doesn't stack up against alot of applicants. If I don't get in this year I am planning on re-taking a few pre-reqs but even then I have to be careful because some schools seem to frown upon that. I have the TEAS V study guide and am about to start studying. I am nervous about the math! So we just need to take the test before we begin in fall (if accepted) right?

Nothing is wrong with the teacher, she's very nice. The curriculum was way too broad to be meaningful to be applied to actual nursing and may also be due to the subject being of interest to other disciplines as well. I don't recommend you do it, but I hardly spent any time on it and got a B in the class. The pharmacology class that is at my school (Cerritos) is killer and really applies pharmacology to nursing, systems, and disease. Only nursing students are in these classes.
The way the class works is the one day lecture is supposed to be recap of everything you did online or things that will enhance the online experience. She's not teaching you in lecture. You listen to her lectures she recorded from home so you hear the delivery man come to the door, the kids outside, the phone ringing, pets, etc.
