  1. I'm planning on taking pharm this summer at GWC. How was pharm for you? How exactly does the online-hybrid class work? Did you find the class difficult? How was the teacher? Do you have any recommendations/tips to do well?
  2. No, pharm and patho are nursing classes and can only be taken if you are accepted into the program.
  3. Thanks for the input apgar10, much appreciated.
  4. @gideonbeth and apgar10- Can you guys tell me how this online-hybrid class works? Do you guys have any tips/suggestions? I'm fairly nervous about taking it this summer considering I haven't taken micro yet. Also apgar10, what do you mean by "useless"? What is wrong with the teacher?
  5. Has anyone here taken pharmacology at GWC?
  6. Good luck to all the applicants :)
  7. Congratulations! All your hard work paid off!
  8. I took AP psychology in HS and I really liked the content. The mind is a beautiful and scary thing!
  9. So all those class listings with "Staff" are actually graduate students who are acting as professors? Are they all the same or are there easier lab staff? Do they all assign the same thing or are they different? Do they have their separate grading policies or the same one determined by the lecture professor? For our cumulative grade do they just report our lab grade to the lecture teacher? Are these exams curved? Are grades curved? So with these SI classes, CHEM 140 is really 6 units, BIO 208 and 207 is 5 units, and MICR 200 is 5 units? Thank you for the tips on buying textbooks. I think we were required to buy the editions they specify because they hand out expected pages to read and problems to do.
  10. @NursingStudent0611- Yeah I'm definitely planning on joining that club. @Omglizison- Wow thank you for that thorough reply, but unfortunately I don't think we are allowed to namedrop on this forum. xD How you can at least tell me how these science courses work? I know they are composed of an lecture, seminar, and laboratory portion. Will each be taught by a different professor or is it done by a single professor? If it is the former does that mean we have a separate grade for lecture, seminar, and laboratory? Do you have any specific tips/study techniques on each course? How much should I plan on studying to do well? How many hours of homework should I expect? How many tests and quizzes should I expect from each course? Are professors approachable enough that I can come to them after hours with questions? Did you find making friends/studying buddies easy in those large lecture halls? How expensive are textbooks? Do you recommend buying them from a specific source? Do we need to purchase all the textbooks that the professors tell us or are lecture notes sufficient? I don't want to spend too much on books because college is already expensive as is, so I was wondering if there were some textbooks you found less than useful and wished you didn't buy? Well if the TEAS is easier than the SATs, I think I'll put off worrying about that test. How advanced are the science and math questions though? I might have to do some reviewing. Good luck with your pharmacology class. :] I don't have AP chem credit in fact Chem 140 will probably be the hardest prerequisite for me. I don't mind taking the necessary classes to take upper division biology classes. I know you wanted to start your nursing degree. But speaking of biology, I don't mean to sound rude, but why didn't you finish getting your Biology degree. Couldn't you have double majored with nursing and biology? Again I apologize for all these questions, but I really want to be prepared and know what I'm getting myself into! Thanks again! =D
  11. @NursingStudent0611- I didn't know the spring term was reserved for CSULB students. Thanks for letting me know that. I think that would be my best bet in terms of applying and getting accepted. Good luck as you start your BSN! Please tell me how it goes. @Omglizison- I honestly don't know what other major I would want to pursue except nursing. Unfortunately, I'm not exactly stellar in any academic area. But I've always been interested in the health/medical field, so I don't want to ruin my chances by doing too much that can jeopardize my chances in the long run. I'll be taking SOC 100 this semester and I already have AP credit for PSY 100. How many years have you been apart of their nursing program? Do you suggest any stand out teachers for the science prerequisite classes? Any that I should steer clear of? How did you study for the TEAS? Is it anything similar to the difficulty found on the SAT? I've heard the Pharmacology and Pathphysiology classes are really difficult due to a certain professor? Did you find that true? I know many people suggest taking the class elsewhere. I know once your part of the nursing program, you have to follow a strict outline of classes they prepared. As much as I love the idea of taking lots of nursing classes, I also want to take courses from outside areas. It's college after all, a time to find areas you enjoy. Did you find it easy to incorporate other classes into your nursing schedule? I'm planning to take a few upper division biology courses. Are there any you enjoyed or hated that stood out? How exactly is the social life there? To what extent does CSULB stick to it's commuter school reputation? Do you have any advice for an incoming freshman to make the transition to college life any easier? I'm sorry for all the questions. I hope you don't find me to be an obnoxious, pretentious prick. On the contrary I'm really nervous as to whether I even have a chance of getting into this competitive field. I appreciate everything you tell me!
  12. Well I believe it's too late to sign up for summer classes. I'm going to be an incoming freshman with 46 units of AP credit (I passed 9/11 APs that I took in high school). So I've finished most of my GEs already. I have to take a critical thinking course in the winter session so I can finish my foundation requirements. Once I finish my foundation requirements, I'll then be able to take my exploration courses including Anatomy and Physiology. Since I'm a honors student I'll have priority registration. I'm planning to take Chem 140, Bio 207, Math 123, and UHP 100 in my spring semester. Then I'll take Micr 200, Bio 208, and Math 224 in the summer. I'll then be able to apply in Fall 2011 for a spot in the Spring 2011 program. Does this plan seem realistic? I know it sounds like I'm rushing and might jeopardize my GPA and chances in the process, but with all the budget cuts, I want to graduate as soon as possible. I had ---- as my SOAR adviser. Do you happen to know him? He was a very nice guy, but he was talking about how competitive the nursing program is and how mostly none of us in the room would get in, and how it takes much more than 4 years to graduate, that he scarred me a bit. What are your thoughts on this? Do you have any tips for me? I appreciate any insight you can provide.
  13. Yeah you guys are right. I'm just getting a little ahead of myself.
  14. @NursingStudent0611- I can't believe I was planning to finish all of my prerequisite classes in a semester. xD I was planning to take Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology, and a critical thinking class for my first semester. Then sse my AP credit for Calculus AB and English Literature (assuming I passed those two tests) to take care of the quantative reasoning and college composition requirement. This would leave the chem class as the only prerequisite class I have left. BUT THEN I RESEARCHED IT AND... I can't take Microbiology without taking chemistry first and that I can't take Anatomy and Physiology until I finish my foundation general requirements first. Take about a failed plan! xD
  15. I'm assuming you took all your nursing prerequisite classes and they transferred over as well. How long did it take you to finish completing all of your nursing prerequisite classes?
