Let's think positive today!!

Published

Hi everyone,

I have been on this site for a week and a lot of the discussion is not so positive.

So, I want to start a positive thread today.

Please post one positive idea you have about nursing or healthcare.

I will do the first.

I am glad to know there are many caring nurses who are there to take care of myself and my family in our time of need. Thank you to them.:yeah::):nurse::up:

TOday I will not become over stressed! (it's my day off) Nurses love thier jobs, provide the best possible care, are there when you need them!

I am positive that perky happiness is uncommon, and I feel good about that.

The care and kindness that I received from the nurses who cared for me while I was a sick is what reinforced my desire to be a nurse. I just want to say thank you to all the nurses who take the time to assure that a patient receives the care that they need, who are willing to try to help the patient understand what the doctors say :), cause sometimes the doctors prognosis went right over my head :D. I just want you all to know that your work does matter, and we will always be grateful for nurses. Be Blessed

It is so rare for people in our society to think positively. We are inundated with negativity at every turn-from our co-workers, to our families, to the news. It is difficult to rise above that and be staunch in our willingness to be positive.

Following is one of my favorite quotes from Gandhi-and is the mindset that I live by:

"Keep your thoughts positive because your thoughts become your words.

Keep your words positive, because your words become your behaviors.

Keep your behaviors positive, because your behaviors become your habits.

Keep your habits positive, because your habits become your values.

Keep your values positive, because your values become your destiny."

If we believe and live by positive, we will receive positive in return. It is hard to be patient with this belief. We have been so geared toward bad things happening that we expect bad things to occur. If we EXPECT good things to happen, and really believe in that, we attract good things to ourselves. This theory has been studied for centuries. Much of it is based on metaphysics, and a good documentary to watch is called "The Secret". If you can get past the first few minutes of Hollywood cheesiness, it goes into the science behind positive and negative forces. It made a huge difference in my life. I encourage you all to watch it.

OP, thank you for starting this thread. We all need sunshine in our lives, and you just spread some!

For me, nursing has combined two of my loves:

Old people and cleaning.

I love cleaning old people… sounds weird but it's true. I love being able to make someone feel better by providing basic care to them that they cannot provide to themselves and leaving them with their dignity in-tact. I love learning from my pts and I love when I can teach them something new. love it. :redpinkhe

Thank you. I love all those quotes. I have had a hard time and I am trying to stay positive. And as you can see I have a lot to say on many subjects. Thanks for posting. Sandi

We can learn from everyone we meet in our lives..no matter who it is.

Thank you for reminding the power of positive thinking.

I have forgotten this for a long time. Thanks. :nurse:

To me, nursing is a helping profession. I like to make sure all of my patients are provided with the most fundamental care that makes them feel like a person.

Assiting and encourage them to wash face, brush teeth, eat and drink is my big thing. Repositioning and checking diapers before they ask is another. (maybe that is why i am busy all the time).

I can see the difference in patients when they see my care is genuine. patients become much calmer and less demanding throughout the day. sometiems they blow a kiss to me (especially old people). :)

I love nursing!

I am also new to this forum, taking my prereqs. I was pretty overwhelmed when I first started reading some of the posts on here. I am realizing more and more how challenging a profession nursing is. But it has made me recommitted to my own personal health so I can meet all the challenges. I quit smoking in January, and now I am exercising more, eating better, and just generally taking better care of myself. I am feeling really good about it and I think it will make me a better nurse. So I am grateful to this forum and to nursing for keeping me inspired to become healthier.
