Hi everyone,
I have been on this site for a week and a lot of the discussion is not so positive.
So, I want to start a positive thread today.
Please post one positive idea you have about nursing or healthcare.
I will do the first.
I am glad to know there are many caring nurses who are there to take care of myself and my family in our time of need. Thank you to them.:)
Thanks for sharing this quote! It has inspire me to create some art that involves this quote. That sure beats staring at my screen looking for job s :)
It is so rare for people in our society to think positively. We are inundated with negativity at every turn-from our co-workers, to our families, to the news. It is difficult to rise above that and be staunch in our willingness to be positive.Following is one of my favorite quotes from Gandhi-and is the mindset that I live by:
"Keep your thoughts positive because your thoughts become your words.
Keep your words positive, because your words become your behaviors.
Keep your behaviors positive, because your behaviors become your habits.
Keep your habits positive, because your habits become your values.
Keep your values positive, because your values become your destiny."
If we believe and live by positive, we will receive positive in return. It is hard to be patient with this belief. We have been so geared toward bad things happening that we expect bad things to occur. If we EXPECT good things to happen, and really believe in that, we attract good things to ourselves. This theory has been studied for centuries. Much of it is based on metaphysics, and a good documentary to watch is called "The Secret". If you can get past the first few minutes of Hollywood cheesiness, it goes into the science behind positive and negative forces. It made a huge difference in my life. I encourage you all to watch it.
OP, thank you for starting this thread. We all need sunshine in our lives, and you just spread some!
I am also new to this forum, taking my prereqs. I was pretty overwhelmed when I first started reading some of the posts on here. I am realizing more and more how challenging a profession nursing is. But it has made me recommitted to my own personal health so I can meet all the challenges. I quit smoking in January, and now I am exercising more, eating better, and just generally taking better care of myself. I am feeling really good about it and I think it will make me a better nurse. So I am grateful to this forum and to nursing for keeping me inspired to become healthier.
That is great!! Good luck.
Fellow nurses and future nurses,
It is going to get better. I have faith. I will not accept any less than that. Good things are going to happen for our profession. Let's stay focused and positive.
It breaks my heart to know that so many caring people want to help people...despite the bad that does come with the territory. One person at a time..just like one day at a time. Good luck to everyone.
I gave a 90yo the first bath he had in months. He had cradle cap and chunks of crud in his ears. The first round took and hour, and then I focused on his scalp. I scrubbed off four or five moles that turned out to be dirt. I'm glad I got hold of him, and that I had enough time to give him a little extra fussing.
(I'm cranky, but not heartless)

actually ch, it has been my experience that the ones who are gruff and rough, are really the ones with the biggest hearts.
and little old ladies (with attitude) are my favorite type of people.
you did good with that guy.:balloons:

all over the world, nurses are at the bedside of dying patients; helping a new mother with her pushing; making sure that a patient is not choking; comforting a child in pain; helping a new doctor with his first bereavement counseling; teaching a new nurse how to give insulin; feeding a soldier in the war front; playing hide-and-seek with a pediatric patient; hugging a crying husband.....
it is wonderful to be a nurse...

thank you. this post made me decide two things (for today at least)
I graduate in two weeks. Today I am not going to worry about not getting a job. I am not going to stress about NCLEX. AND I am not going to stress over having an ADN and not a BSN. :yeah:

because of nursing, i have grown as a person.
deep learning curve...professionally, spiritually, and personally.
