Doesn't it just drive you insane when someone tells you that Mr. Smith's O2 STAT is 96%?
It's O2 SAT people! Sat, short for saturation. I even hear respiratory therapists saying this. I am sooooo tempted to say something next time, but I know it's just petty, so I needed to vent here. Thank you.
eyknough said:What a great thread! I've had a couple moments when I ask myself what school these people go to. lolMy favorite one to pick on is when a nurse reports that a patient has a "UA".... Uh, you mean UTI, which was diagnosed using a UA?
I had a nurse tell me that a patient was on the BM watch list because they hadn't had a BM in 3 days. I said "But she's not eating!" To which she responded, well she's on TPN so she should be pooping something.
Really, people? Really?! We are hooking that TPN to a PICC line, not a feeding tube...
Sontimeters really gets under my skin, too.
It is my understanding they still have a BM even when on TPN. It's not much and won't be the consistency of normal stools but your GI system is still going. That is what we were told anyway.
OK, this is minor--- just heard this week on the Food Network.... expresso is the American version (aka not correct- LOL) for espresso :) I'm just glad I don't like coffee
I can't stand the inappropriate use of adjectives. "Patient X is nauseous"....Really??? That's her usual state? OR, is she nauseated??
"Patient Y can walk quick"....well, good for him- but it's 'quickly'....
"How do you feel?" answer- "good" (NO- that is a statement of the quality of something like 'bad'- not a feeling - badly would be correct also)....it's "well" (I know it sounds stuffy, but it's correct !!)
Also- "me and her had went to the store" (well, obviously you must have been skipping your English class"....
Some stuff seems to be regional--- until watching some of the Real Housewives of NYC (real what???) and heard "I've been knowing him for 15 years"...... Hmmm.... I've known some people for fifteen years..... didn't know I could put past and present in the same verb phrase..... But I keep hearing it

I seem to remember some discussion on the well vs good.....that well is not always correct....that it means that if you are feeling something such as fabric, you are doing a good job of feeling it...rather than the state of your being which might well be good.......lol

Thank you for reminding me - I hate it when people handover that "Mr Jones came in for a stroke/chest infection etc." Really? So he was fine, and decided to change all that - "please can I have a R) MCA territory infarct. Oh, you can only manage L) temporal lobe - yeah, okay, I'll have one of those instead."
