Duke ABSN 2012
So sad to say it... but with my debt from my first degree... I can't do it. I just can't justify putting my family in such a precarious position. Dang it. Time for plan B.

Nope, still has not come. I'm driving myself batty checking email every few minutes. BTW, we just had an earthquake here in NC! Don't worry, that's pretty rare! (5.9 in Va, felt like

To Stop or Not
My CPR instructor explained that if you are a healthcare worker, or someone who should know better, and you cause harm (such as snapping off the xyphoid process), then you can be held liable.... because you should have known better. A Good Sam will have somewhat better protection from liability because there is no reason that they should have known better.

It was an awesome day! Interviews were not bad... no tricky questions. My interviewer was super nice and easy to talk to. They are more or less asking you the same questions you answered in your personal statement. The group interview is not bad, don't be worried. They did ask us not to talk about it, but I will tell you it's not bad. The rest of the day is really about what to expect next and financial aid stuff. *Spoiler Alert* Here was the surprising thing, which I will now ruin for you: When they send out decisions, you will know something either way. You will either be accepted or moved to second round, but either way, they will tell you. Now the fun part... decisions will be sent the week of Aug 10th!!! Holy Cow, that is so much faster than I thought! Financial Aid offers will be around Aug 22 for those accepted. Good luck to all of you with interviews next week! It was really great to meet so many people, and a few from these forums. :)

Learn To Say It Correctly!!
Probably just a local thing here in the rural parts of NC, but I have heard several people say onion as "ong-yun"... It makes my teeth ache.

Hey there Cherith, I will be there Friday. Mmm, I think I'm even more nervous about the group interview after reading your post. Group activity... seems ominous! :sofahider It would be really cool to meet some of the folks posting on here! Good luck to you all!

Nurses and Burn out
I have a different perspective on this one... I'm currently applying to nursing school and hope to be joining the ranks. I have been a veterinary technician for 13 years. I work in emergency where I routinely work 14 hr shifts with no breaks, no lunch. We just eat between emergencies and take breaks if it's quiet. Technicians do everything from triage, taking radiographs, running the lab work, placing the i.v., administering meds, to monitoring the icu patients. It's exhausting. The pay for a good er tech in this area is 14-15/hr, not always with benefits. I've done if for so long because I loved it. Being bitten in the face by a 120lb rottweiler puts a new perspective on what I'm willing to sacrifice, though. (no plastic surgery needed :) ) I fully expect to have the same long hours, the shortage of help, and the stress of too many patients. Hopefully not too many human patients will be biting me in the face. It's a little frightening to see the high attrition rate... I hope that what I'm already used to will help me to avoid burnout, atleast for awhile.

I live about 30min from campus, so it's a nice little commute for me. I'll be there on the 29th (well...I HOPE I will! Where is that confirmation email??) I'm so excited! Of course, the wait now is nothing compared to the nerve-wracking wait AFTER the interviews! :)

I rsvp'd for the 29th, but I haven't heard back yet. I was reading what the last cohort had to say, and one person did recommend a suit. She said that just a nice shirt and pants would have been under-dressed compared to most, but I'm really not sure about that with this heat.

Got my interview email! Now I just need to tame the butterflies until then. I'm actually alot more nervous about paying for this than I am about the interview. I still have a pretty good debt from my first degree and I wonder about the wisdom of adding to that.
