I'm curious. I'm 22 but I'm struggling in anatomy and really don't know what else to do. I feel like maybe if I work a little bit and save up my money I can come back at another time and go back to school. I thought about becoming a cna?
I started seriously considering nursing school right when I turned 25... And am now 9 weeks from graduating and I just turned 30. And when I started actual nursing school (3 years ago), the average age in my class was about 31. So no, definitely you're not too late to start nursing school!
I'm turning 34 in a few weeks and will be starting an Accelerated BSN program this June. To be honest, I don't think I would've had the determination or drive as I do now to complete nursing school when I obtained my first degree. I had no idea what I wanted in life and was quite carefree at that time. I valued traveling and going out with friends, while studying was not exactly my priority during my late teens and early 20's. I do believe it's never too late for school as long as you are serious about it and determined to succeed.
My mom started nursing school when she was in her early 40s. Having her example makes me less conscious of the fact I'll be starting at 28. The average age of most of the programs I've looked at is about 30. Many entering nursing school are going for a second career so the average age is a little older, though there certainly are students who figure out they want to go into nursing right out the gate and get in at 18.
