Keiser University as of June 2010 reviews

U.S.A. Florida

I was reading an old forum on people's opinions on Keiser, but I didn't find any that spoke of Keiser now in 2010. Some things have changed, apparently. I know that they are now accredited, first of all, and that the entrance test is the TEAS. I just wanted to know of anyone's opinion of how the school is now (especially Ft.Lauderdale)? Has anyone recently graduated from there, or is going there now? I'm looking into it and plan to take the TEAS in July to apply for next year.

Basically, I am 43 and need to change to nursing as a career (I'm burnt out after 20 years and the economy for education especially is so very bad - I was laid off along with 300 other teachers). I'm a teacher (so I have a BA), and have always loved health care, but kids and family made it tough to change careers midstream. I have the prereqs that I need for Keiser, but I would need another 2 semesters to finish the ones for general community colleges and such. I constantly hear how hard it is to get into nursing programs - there's not enough space so there's waiting lists. My grades are A's so far in sciences, so the GPA isn't what worries me as much as having to wait. Obviously, I'm not at the beginning of my career "life" and need to be earning more soon because my childrens' childsupport ends in 2012, and they will still need just as much help and care then as I give them now, so money will become a HUGE issue soon. I also know that once I have my RN, even from Keiser, I can apply to most BSN and MS programs out there (it's only if I leave during my program at Keiser and try to transfer credits then that the other colleges would not accept them, correct)? Please correct me if I'm wrong or you have any additional insights!

So, even with the big financial commitment for what is just an Associate's degree, will it be worth it do you think? What have you heard about the school recently? I can't wait too long. I figure once I have the RN I can go about applying to a public university for the BSN to save money then. It's getting that first degree that counts, right?

Please, please share your opinions and advice. I don't wish to provoke a debate on private schools versus public education, etc, etc. That previous debate took a bad turn from what I read from a previous thread from 2009. I just need to hear other's points of view. Thank you!

The 14th I was thinking that I should take it on the 20th at MDC that way it will not count against me if I mess up. I dont want to wait that long but this Wednesday will not work for me. When do you start your pre req classes?

I have already registered for a the B term at MDC independent studies. Will start reading and doing homework this evening. I want to get finished fast. I will take the first and second test within the first week of the term if all goes well. That way if I have to do the extra credit book report, I will have plenty of time. Did you register for for your class? I don't know if you have already taken the TEAS (don't remember if you mentioned it) but the testing center at MDC medical campus is very inviting and cozy. Let me know how it is going for you. If you want my help let me know that too. You can PM me if that is allowed. I will try to figure out how to do it myself in the meantime.

I have registered for the AML class independent study as well at MDC Kendall starts the 20th thats all I need. I will be taking the teas on oct 20th. You need 15 posts to pm anybody. I know you feel great to have that test over with. After the test will be the interview and doing well in the aml class, but I can not worry about that now I need to focus on PASSING THIS TEST..

Does anyone know how often students get bumped up to sooner starts at keiser? And also is it hard to get into the program? I'm referring to the Lakeland campus. I will be taking the teas in Nov. to apply for spring 2012 but thats a long time from now! I was wondering if it was even possible to get bumped to fall 2011. thanks in advance for any responses!!!!

Hi!! I live in Georgia and am applying for nursing schools in Florida...south Florida preferably. Keiser is on my list. I've taken the wonderlic and am scheduled to take the TEAS in December. Which (Keiser) campus do you guys think is the best. I'm applying to the Fort Lauderdale and West Palm campuses.

Any ideas??:thankya:

Hi all I have a question for any of you that are currently in/graduated from Keiser University. If you had to take your prereqs there how much were the start up costs? Books fees etc? Thanks in advance

I am planning on gong there for medical assisting but my husband just keeps reading bad reviews and he is not being very supportive he is all money money. I do qualify for fasfa and when I had the overview for financial aid he said I would still prolly need to take out loans. My question is how id you pay for it and everything? We have are actual appointment today with finacial aid I hope it goes well.

I am personally a fan of Keiser and think it's a great school; however as you are aware it is expensive. Although the medical assisting program may be good, I personally would not go there for that program because of the cost. There are tons of places that offer medical assisting for much much cheaper. Figure that the cost of the program is about $7,500 per semester and I think the program is at least 4 semesters. You could come out of school deep in debt and as a medical assistant you will not make a ton of money. Look at technical schools because the total cost for their program is about $2,500 and I've seen other schools that offer medical assisting for less than $10,000.

Good luck!

Thanks! Yeah we just got done with the finance appointment. My other question is what are the general ed at Keiser for the nursing program?

Hi every one, I graduate from Keiser in orlando, I loved the school, and the instructions were nothing less than wonderful!

I would recommend it to anyone!

Ps I passed my NCLEX -RN on my first try! And so did 99% of my classmates!

I was on their first RN class on the orlando campus, the second class, graduated last month, and so far they are all doing great on the NCLEX as well!

I felt that at keiser orlando, we had special attention, wonderful instructors, and all of us got a job after graduating!

Hello, I was wondering the hours of the RN program at the Keiser University in Orlando - are there nights? I'm trying to stay working as much as I can with the program.

I am considering going to Keiser for the nursing program but have been hearing mixed reviews on the school. Could you give me some more info about Keiser and the way the program is run along with the application process? Thanks!

I can give you some feedback on Keiser. I have been a student there for 4 months. They transferred most of my gen eds from the local state college and the ones that I didn't have, I took. The classes are 1 month long, which fits me perfectly. You have a test every Friday and depending upon the class, a quiz every week also.

Class size is never more than 20, most of my classes have only been with about 12 other students. The instructors are professional, knowledgeable and accessable. They have math and science labs available and you can even stop teachers that you've never had and they will spend time with you if need be.

If you go into the RN program, you have 9 gen eds that you need to have. You have to pass an entrance (Wunderlich?) test, a Teas (version 5), a departmental head interview and a final approval by the board. You have to have a 3.0 and currently at my campus, they are starting their first RN classes in August.

It is expensive but I had to weigh that I can be done by Dec 2012 and making money and continuing on to my BSN versus waiting around until my name comes up on a list. I figured that if I got my BSN, it would be nothing to pay back the loans versus sitting around and waiting (again for my name to come up on a list).

I hope this was helpful, please let me add that I attended the local state college and dropped after getting all my requireds in for my AA degree, I got bored......I don't see that happening, this degree is fast paced.
