Keiser University as of June 2010 reviews

Published

I was reading an old forum on people's opinions on Keiser, but I didn't find any that spoke of Keiser now in 2010. Some things have changed, apparently. I know that they are now accredited, first of all, and that the entrance test is the TEAS. I just wanted to know of anyone's opinion of how the school is now (especially Ft.Lauderdale)? Has anyone recently graduated from there, or is going there now? I'm looking into it and plan to take the TEAS in July to apply for next year.

Basically, I am 43 and need to change to nursing as a career (I'm burnt out after 20 years and the economy for education especially is so very bad - I was laid off along with 300 other teachers). I'm a teacher (so I have a BA), and have always loved health care, but kids and family made it tough to change careers midstream. I have the prereqs that I need for Keiser, but I would need another 2 semesters to finish the ones for general community colleges and such. I constantly hear how hard it is to get into nursing programs - there's not enough space so there's waiting lists. My grades are A's so far in sciences, so the GPA isn't what worries me as much as having to wait. Obviously, I'm not at the beginning of my career "life" and need to be earning more soon because my childrens' childsupport ends in 2012, and they will still need just as much help and care then as I give them now, so money will become a HUGE issue soon. I also know that once I have my RN, even from Keiser, I can apply to most BSN and MS programs out there (it's only if I leave during my program at Keiser and try to transfer credits then that the other colleges would not accept them, correct)? Please correct me if I'm wrong or you have any additional insights!

So, even with the big financial commitment for what is just an Associate's degree, will it be worth it do you think? What have you heard about the school recently? I can't wait too long. I figure once I have the RN I can go about applying to a public university for the BSN to save money then. It's getting that first degree that counts, right?

Please, please share your opinions and advice. I don't wish to provoke a debate on private schools versus public education, etc, etc. That previous debate took a bad turn from what I read from a previous thread from 2009. I just need to hear other's points of view. Thank you!

Hi everyone!!! I am also a prospective student and have lots of concerns. I have taken the teas test and passed it. I also maintained over a 3.0 in prerequisites at my current school (hcc, plant city). I applied to the nursing program here and im hoping to get into the spring semester. "if" things dont go my way which im praying they do, i will attend keiser. If i have to take out multiple loans i will do it because it's for my future. My main concern is the quality of the program (lakeland campus). I've read different reviews but they were mostly directed at other programs. I wanted to know of anyone's personal nursing experience at the lakeland campus, i want to be able to have a job and not be turned away b/c of the school i went to. Sorry for the essay lol but im just concerned.

Hi every one, I graduate from Keiser in orlando, I loved the school, and the instructions were nothing less than wonderful!

I would recommend it to anyone!

Ps I passed my NCLEX -RN on my first try! And so did 99% of my classmates!

I was on their first RN class on the orlando campus, the second class, graduated last month, and so far they are all doing great on the NCLEX as well!

I felt that at keiser orlando, we had special attention, wonderful instructors, and all of us got a job after graduating!

Here is a website that goes thru the Florida schools, giving information on accreditation...

Thought it might be helpful..

So proud of you 9livesRN ;-) does anybody attend the kendall campus?

I am also on the same boat and have read so many negative remarks regarding Keiser Univesrity.I haven't found much that speaks of Keiser now in 2010. I met with an advisor and was told that I have to review for the entrance test w/c is the TEAS and if I pass with flying colors I will then have an interview with the Dean. I just wanted to know of anyone's opinion of how the school is now (especially Ft.Lauderdale)? I also want to know if anyone has recently graduated from there, or is enrolled in the Nursing program? I'm looking into it and plan to take the TEAS soon in order for me to apply to take my pre requisites. I have a degree in Marketing and tried applying to Broward College but it was such a nightmare trying to get a hold of someone to tell me what I needed to do in order to start a semester. I also would like to know if it's true that the wait list to get into the nursing program in Keiser isn't as long as it would be in comparison to the community colleges. Thank you!

Hello I just recently started at Keiser last month for the nursing program and I love it so far! I love how flexible the schedules are and how accessible the professors are! I have no complaints.

As far as the Teas test, the ATI study guide helped me tremendously!! Hope u get in! Best blessings to u!

MsScorpio (or any other that may be applying to Keiser Kendall)

Do you know what version of the TEAS is given? I just bought the study guides and realized that there are different versions. I don't want to start marking up a book that will not help me. I have the McGraw Hill Nursing School Entrance Exams which was highly recommended here and the ATI Teas study guide for version 3.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

The admission counselor said in October they will be swiching to the 5.0 version so I got that (2 days ago) as well as the Mcgraw hill (had for a month now). Plan on taking it in a coouple of weeks. When do you plan on taking your test?

I am headed to barnes and noble right now to exchange my ati book. They have it on hold for me. I plan on taking it as soon as possible. I hope this week, depends on how the science part goes during study. If not then next week. Lets keep in touch.

Ok. (I am taking a break from studying now...been at it all day) Finale someone in the kendall area..lol have you taken you pre reqs?

I have an AA in engineering from MDC. Unfortunately for me right now, that degree did not require some of the pre reqs that nursing does. I am going to take 2 during the upcoming mini-term through independent studies and the others which are anatomy and micro I will take at Keiser. So glad that I don't have to do chemistry again!!! I did one, but not the one for nursing that is required for all the other nursing programs. That alone was almost enough reason to choose Keiser. I really enjoy all of the sciences but that one. I am back to the books and my kitchen table.

I will be taking aml independent study MDC too thats all i need in Oct. I can't wait to take and pass this test...

I think I found a big typo in the ATI book. It's on page 153 in one of the Punnett Squares. Example 3.7. What do you think?
