Keiser University as of June 2010 reviews

U.S.A. Florida

I was reading an old forum on people's opinions on Keiser, but I didn't find any that spoke of Keiser now in 2010. Some things have changed, apparently. I know that they are now accredited, first of all, and that the entrance test is the TEAS. I just wanted to know of anyone's opinion of how the school is now (especially Ft.Lauderdale)? Has anyone recently graduated from there, or is going there now? I'm looking into it and plan to take the TEAS in July to apply for next year.

Basically, I am 43 and need to change to nursing as a career (I'm burnt out after 20 years and the economy for education especially is so very bad - I was laid off along with 300 other teachers). I'm a teacher (so I have a BA), and have always loved health care, but kids and family made it tough to change careers midstream. I have the prereqs that I need for Keiser, but I would need another 2 semesters to finish the ones for general community colleges and such. I constantly hear how hard it is to get into nursing programs - there's not enough space so there's waiting lists. My grades are A's so far in sciences, so the GPA isn't what worries me as much as having to wait. Obviously, I'm not at the beginning of my career "life" and need to be earning more soon because my childrens' childsupport ends in 2012, and they will still need just as much help and care then as I give them now, so money will become a HUGE issue soon. I also know that once I have my RN, even from Keiser, I can apply to most BSN and MS programs out there (it's only if I leave during my program at Keiser and try to transfer credits then that the other colleges would not accept them, correct)? Please correct me if I'm wrong or you have any additional insights!

So, even with the big financial commitment for what is just an Associate's degree, will it be worth it do you think? What have you heard about the school recently? I can't wait too long. I figure once I have the RN I can go about applying to a public university for the BSN to save money then. It's getting that first degree that counts, right?

Please, please share your opinions and advice. I don't wish to provoke a debate on private schools versus public education, etc, etc. That previous debate took a bad turn from what I read from a previous thread from 2009. I just need to hear other's points of view. Thank you!

I saw that they just made an error on the pairing, but the anwser is correct under it. Im sure you have went through the book already and completed it.

Hey there,

I finally finished the science part yesterday and started the math. I have about 4 pages left to do on math. I will then skim the reading and language to make sure I don't miss something. I plan to take a practice test from the book later today to see how I do. The real test I was kinda thinking of taking it at MDC next Wednesday so that I don't ruin the 2 chances at Keiser. If I do well Keiser will accept the scores and that's great. I have to go to MDC tonight (weather permitting) and finish my re-registering since I graduated from there in 2006. How is your studying going?

It going ok (what my kids will let me get done)this is my 2nd attemp so I have to get it right I plan on taking the 1st prac. exam on saturday and see where my weak areas are then possibly purchase an online exam. I didnt knw we could take it at MDC I may do that as weel which campus has the test? I just finished science and going on to english.

Only the medical center campus has the test. I called and here is the scoop. Register and pay online with ATI. It is given at 10am on Wednesdays only. You don't have to be a student of MDC. I like that the scores are accepted by Keiser, and if I don't do well there is nothing against me. How did you do on the science? That is my weakest part because of the chemistry. I finished the practice exams in the book and did really good on math, english, and reading. But the science stunk. I have a week to focus just on science and get it right. I am going to register for the test tonight so that I make sure I get a spot.

I did ok on the science portion. I finshed the book just going to do a run through both books, and take a practice exam and see where my weak areas are then brush upon them. Wishing you luck on you test I am sure you will do well. :)

maliusa did you purchase a practice exam?

I was meaning to contact you today too. I am set to take the test on Wed. at MDC. I did not purchase a practice exam because if I judge by the exams in the book, I only need the science portion. Language, Reading and Math I did very well. I don't want to pay for portions that I don't need and then have to go through them since it is computerized and end up wasting time and money. I thought I could better use my time going over and over the science part, which is what I need the most. Unless, you know that I can purchase just the science. Do you? When are you taking the test? It is almost 9pm Monday right now. I tell you because there is a time problem with what is posted and what comes up in my e-mail notification.

Since you did well I would not waste money as well. And you would have to take all sections can't take one Me on the other hand I did well in the Mcgraw book practice exam ATI bombed it badly I just took one practice exam I made a lot of careless mistakes in math, reading time got me, science yeah, english carelessness and spelling. So now I have 1 week to get all this together. I was nervous taking the prac exam I hate to see the real one. I guess I will be getting a prac exam...aaarrhhhh

hope you did well on the exam :)

Thank you so much for thinking about me. I did very well in fact. I passed all parts with more than enough score. I took the results to Keiser right away. The advisor was impressed. I was so nervous taking the test and even more nervous waiting for the results to show up on the screen. When do you plan on taking yours?

:ancong!: Plan on taking it Thursday. Would you say that the ATI practice exam was on point with the actual test and did the Mcgraw book help?

Thursday this week or next week? Both books were very helpful. Concentrate more on the ATI one though. The nature of the questions is the same and the same format. Besides spelling and some reading, none of the questions were as in the book. In "other exams" I have taken in the past, the practice questions were exactly like the real thing only the numbers or some words were different. Not so with the this one, or at least my version. No question looked familiar. I am sort of biased towards thinking that the science part was the most difficult, but if I were you I would make sure I knew the cell parts and their functions real good. I will tell you that the math was fairly easy to swallow. I had plenty of time for all of the parts and even went back to check. Overall I was nervous as he**. But so glad that I studied as much as I did. Thanks so much for your support. It really meant alot. Even though I don't know you, I felt I had another one on my side.
