Just venting about something dumb

Published

So yesterday I'm in class and one of my classmates was doing a presentation on cirrhosis of the liver. The lady I was sitting next to decided she was hungry and pulls out a bag of almonds and starts eating them in the middle of the presentation. The room was silent except for the presenter talking so you could clearly hear her eating them. She would crinkle the bag, crunch them very loudly, smack her mouth, then when she was done, she starting obnoxiously sucking nuts out of her teeth!

I couldn't concentrate at all thanks to her eating like a goat the whole time. :banghead:

I know it's a silly thing to vent about, but for person who is going to be a nurse, I don't think thats very professional behavior!

Okay...*out of my system*;)

Thanks to all the responses!

I agree with you all. My biggest pet peeve is also any kind of eating, gum chewing or drinking without manners. I agree with the no food policy, or at least if you are going to eat, do it respectfully. I have missed many a lecture because of giving someone the look of death for smacking gum. I swear if another piece of gum were never created, I wouldn't shed a tear

This is too funny. Just yesterday I was eating in the school's cafeteria when I heard a girl slopping down her meal. She was sitting at least 15 ft away from me and the room was not quiet either. I could not believe how loudly she was chewing her food! I guess I can't say it was rude because she was eating where she should be, but it was definately gross and a bit abnoxious. I don't know how her friend could stand being next to her, lol! Oh well, some people just don't realize that they are so noisey I guess. Too bad nobody's ever told them

There's a woman in my statistics class who eats a full meal during every class. She brings in a huge plate of enchiladas, stir fry, etc., and the whole room smells like it for the entire period! I think it's kind of bizarre - if you need a fork to eat something, you shouldn't be eating it in a classroom. She sits right next to the woman who works on homework for another course during the class, and then complains that she doesn't understand what's going on. Sigh.

That would drive me CRAZY! It reminds me of my old boss' boss. Her cubicle was across from me and she would smack her gum all...........day...............long. It made me want to tear my hair out! I'll tell ya though, I'm sure our WHOLE classroom sounded like goats on weds though LOL! Our instructor brought in Tootsie pops to demonstrate the Neuman Systems Model to us. Really worked, but after that everyone was crunching away on their Tootsie Pops.

Oh my... I finished CNA class in December. Through the whole class, I had to sit in front of this girl would would let these really loud nasty burps and farts all day long. She would also sit at her desk and moan, groan, sigh, you name it. It got on my nerves so bad!

My professors are all ok with drinking something in class...eating is a big no-no. Time management applies to nourishing ones self also as far as I'm concerned. My algebra teacher has absolutely no problem throwing a student out of his classroom for a cell phone ringing, eating, talking etc... He has zero tolerance. You're warned during the first day syllibus talk...you better listen. LOL! Best math teacher on campus and I'm getting an A in his class!

I don't know...maybe it's my age... but at 49 I have no problem telling someone to shut up or stop what they are doing if it's bothering me. (and I've done it more than once) I'm paying for my education and I'm not going to let some twit botch it up for me. :D

Oh I really with I had the gaul to tell someone off! You're braver that I am!!! With the exception of having a medical condition, there is no reason that someone should need to eat in class.....especially if you're going to eat like a captured animal. You're meals need to come on your own time and if it is actually disruptive, then thats a problem!

An interesting aside...in the German language, different words are used for the verb "to eat" depending on whether it's a person (essen) or an animal (fressen). It's possible to tell somebody to eat slower or not so noisily, while simultaneously telling them that they're eating like a goat (or a captured animal).

Happens in class all the time and it is very annoying. The other day I was in pre conference and it's a small room and there are 9 of us and 3 people are constantly clicking their clicky pins. It took all my might not to lose it.

This reminds me of the time when I was interviewing nurses for the postion of clinical nurse educator for the emergency department. The person had to have a masters degree and certain other qualifications. Certainly, with those credentials you would hope that a person would know how to dress for an interview. One woman came who had excellent qualifications on paper. She was a bit overweight (which does not bother me) but she had on this very tight t-shirt and a tight skirt (it was not professional attire), no hose, a pair of flip flops and the dirtiest feet. I could not believe that someone would come to an interview looking like that. Needless to say, I did not hire her.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who gets annoyed with these kinds of things. I guess it's just because I'm so stressed out with all this school work but I've been on edge lately and the little things are really starting to annoy me!
