I don't know why they wouldn't let you take them both at the same time... cause they're usually taught together. That stinks... sorry.

Each school has their own way of teaching A&P. At my school we take it together. A&P I, then A&P II. I think this is the way that most schools do it. However, I know that there are many schools who make you take it seperate.

Actually, they are usually linked together in the lower division classes. It's pretty hard to separate the two without introducing some pretty mind-boggling biochemistry and math into pure physiology. There is so much information to be learned that A&P is generally taught over one year. Traditionally, the first part being cells, planes of the body, bones, and muscles. The second part gets into the other body systems and their organs and organ physiology.

I had to take them separately; first anatomy and then human physiology.

I took A&P last semester. However, I didn't take 1 and 2. It was all one 15 week course. Perhaps it would have been easier on me if it were split up.

Specializes in Home Health Care.

My school makes nursing, Rad Tech, Surge- tech & P.T.A take the A & P classes seperatley; while EMT's, Paramedics, Pharm Tech's, Health Information technology, & med lab tech's can take the classes together. I know our seperate A & P classes will transfer to the Universities in my area, but the combined A&P won't.

Specializes in Adolescent Psych, PICU.

I also took them seperatly. It just depends on the schools it seems. Where I live the BSN programs all require them to be taken seperatly (same classes that the pre-med, pre-pharm, etc take) but the 2 year schools require 2 semester of the combined classes.

I personally dont see the different, either way your taking 2 semesters!

Trust me, you will want and need a break in between the two classes!

Specializes in Surgical/Telemetry.

I took them through the same year, but as separate classes, with separate labs = 4 classes total. Can't really say whether it is easier or harder than taking them combined.

Specializes in PeriOp, ICU, PICU, NICU.

Ask your school if you can sign a waiver to take both at the same time. My school offers them together not separate, but you cannot take 2 sciences in the same semester. The only exception is if you sign a waiver after they review your grades and progress.

Good luck

That happened to my friend, except from the other end of it. She took them seperate and then had to transfer when her husband was moved. She had to take it over as a&P. If you take it that way, try to be sure you are going to stay at that school or you could get behind in the long run, or at least be careful where you trnasfer tpo
