Just a reminder to watch what you say!

Published

I have a page on a social network site. Mentioned that I had a bad night, for three nights. Recently, I got called into my boss's office. There were COPIES of my page sitting on the desk. I was told to watch what I say, because by saying I had a bad night, it was bad for the company image. Then I was told that my page would be monitered closely for the next few months:mad: I went home and immediately upped my privacy settings to and took down my place of employment. I felt completely violated.

Just want to gently remind everyone, be very careful what you put up on websites. I don't drink, smoke or get high. I never post any inappropriate pictures. If I can get called out for posting that I had a bad night, it can happen to anyone. Oh, the world we live in....

wow! Unbelievable. I find it interesting that the place you work thinks you are so dangerously influential that you could effect their image. You should be proud! (in the works of carly simon1970's folk singer- I must be some kinda girl-

Thanks for the heads up.

We just had to 'renew' our signatures on the social newtworking hospital policy where we are even prohibited to list where we work or anything relating to work. This includes saying. "It was such a long and tiring night at work".

SO stupid!

This sounds like a load of garbage. Is there a policy that you are not able to say publicly that you had a bad night at work? I doubt it. If you had posted specific information about the job, work procedures, nurse-patient ratios, other employees, patients, etc they may have the right to say something. Saying you had a hard night at work is pretty innocous. I would be very surprised if they could fire you or even discipline you for writing something like that, I don't care if they did call you into the office.

What's the ACLU's take on signing agreements like that....I'd be interested to see where this goes in the future...tech lags behind laws.

You got called into an office for saying you HAD A BAD NIGHT??! Lord above, can't anyone say anything nowadays, or have a respectful though slightly different opinion from anyone else, without someone jumping down their throat? It's not as if you broke confidentiality in any way!

But thanx for the reminder :)

Honestly, if I was reprimanded for saying "I had a bad night", I would start looking for another job. That isn't a place I want to work.

About two years ago, I had an employee say I said something bad about the company before and I received a phone call at home for it. :sstrs: I didn't have my employer's name up, it was also hear say, so their was no proof of anything. I had added some coworkers and I know who did it. I did not return to work for other reasons. That place really did have issues with some of their nurses and me saying I had a bad day on FB was not one of them. So things do happen for a reason in my circumstances.

But, alas my lesson learned do not add coworkers and don't talk about work on social networking sites. Someone mentioned school that is a good idea! I should not do that as well, lmao! :coollook:

If you do find your name on Google you can ask the webmaster to remove it. There are usually pretty good at doing so. ;)

I don't post where I work and I have my privacy settings on the highest level. Even then, I don't put anything about work on my wall, because you never know who may decide to get their panties in a bunch over something stupid.

Sorry that happened to you. Sounds like you work for a bunch of jerks.

Just an FYI....I once found posts of mine from HERE, (form 7 years ago) copied and pasted on a public FB community page. (A public FB page to discuss a local missing child case, and there has been a lot of animosity amongst those who believe a particular person is responsible vs those who don't)

My user name here is in no way associated with anything on facebook, except that I use my real name as my email, and my FB page. So, by googling my real name, it led them here to my posts under this user name.

So, if someone is trying to cause you issues, and they know your email, or even your FB user name, they can track you down to what you post here.

How the heck would bosses, or any NUM for that matter, have TIME to search the internet, looking for disgruntled staff members?

They must hire people to do this I reckon.

Because they are not the worker bees....

Doesn't it seem like 99.999% of the postings here an AN about getting in trouble over facebook are due to a coworker "friend" reporting it?

Good lord. That's what "friends" have become due to social networking? It used to be he said/she said and ultimately without proof, but now it's as easy as hitting "print" on your computer to stab a friend in the back. How sad.

ETA: "How sad" meaning why would anyone want to do that?
