Hi everyone!
I'm starting nursing school in August and I was curious, what color is your stethoscope? Someone told me not to get black because it could possibly "grow legs."
What is the best brand and color?
I've had blue, navy blue, green, red, and black stethoscope tubing. The red and black stethoscopes were super cheap ones I got from work many years ago, or from school. My Sprague Rappaport style stethoscopes have all had black tubing. Everything else has been a Littmann of some sort. My current Littmann Cardiology III stethoscope is navy blue. I have had this one for about 14 years now and it's still going strong.
I've been very satisfied with the Littmann stethoscopes that I've had over the years and I'm sure current models are at least as good. If you're looking for a starter, just get one that's between about $30 and $70 and you'll have a good starter stethoscope that should last you for years and you won't miss it much if you have to replace it.
Littman in raspberry. I don't dig the name engraving though.... seriously, if someone from another unit walked off with your stethoscope that tiny inscription is not going to help you find it. I however covered my tubing in pink panther and regular show stickers.... so if some dopey resident walks off with my junk I'll see it from a mile away and.... DAT A** IS MINE!
After 25+ years in healthcare..I can testify that no matter the color they can ALL grow legs :) ohh and engraved ones..those grow legs too. I had an obnoxious flourecent orange one with my name engraved..yup..it grew legs one day...never did see it again.
I've had my Littman Classic since LPN school (2007), black. Love it.
