Is it too soon?
Hey all! I am currently working at a SNF, have been for about 6 months now. This was the first job offered since I graduated in May '16 and I took it! I know for a fact that this current setting is not where I want to stay although I am really grateful for the opportunity given to me as a new nurse. My question is: is it too soon to attempt to leave my current job? I began applying to other places but have not got call backs yet...still wondering if I should wait another 6 months before I actually attempt to leave.

New grad with RN license
I completely understand your position as I was in it not too long ago. At one point I got frustrated just sending out applications online as I was not getting no call backs. One day I just selected few facilities to go to and drop my resume and cover letter. I dressed up just in case I may get an on the spot interview and luckily one facility interviewed me as the DON was not busy at the time. Needless to say I got an offer. BUT my story may not pan out for you the way it did for me, but what can you lose? I know that many new grads shoot for hospital jobs or acute care but realistically they are looking for BSN as well as grads with experience, so it may be in your best interest to be less picky and look for any experience rather that waiting for the perfect job as some of my classmates are doing (and still sitting at home). You can also utilize your network, talk to some friends and co-workers, even at your doctor's office where you go for primary care, let them know you are a new grad with health care experience and is actively looking for a job and you would be surprise who knows who. Good luck!!!

New Hire Help...
I think the reason that they made you sign a contract for volunteering training is in their own best interest (OF WHICH I TOTALLY DISAGREE WITH). But, perhaps they are used to having interviewed for many people for the position, hired them, paid for training and having the nurse quit soon after..its like a bad cycle of lost revenue. So although its is not right nor may be illegal but if you signed a contract then you "agreed" to volunteer your time which then it is not illegal?..... With all that said, I personally would not come to orientation/training and not be paid, my time is precious especially if you are a single mom where you have to provide for your child. Continue to look at other places for employment, and as other posters suggested have a meeting with HR to discuss being paid for training...

Got an offer in sub-acute, how to politely decline the offer?
"I am sincerely grateful for the opportunity offered to me, however I must regretfully decline the offer".....could be a great starter as you are showing appreciation for taking the chance in hiring you but you are unable to accept

Should I quit?
That's a little harsh don't you think. I don't believe that last part was necessary.....

you can search memes of passing the NCLEX and post as your profile pic....there are some creative ones under google image...- NCLEX MONDAY HELP! anxious, nervous
Congrats!!! Oh how I wish I can join you in celebrating the good news! I too took the exam yesterday at 8AM, screen shut off at 75 surprisingly because the last few questions I was completely guessing....I started FREAKING out on the train ride home because I know I answered some of those questions wrong...the exam was weird/hard/easy all at the same time. Its hard to explain...I promised myself not to do the PVT but I couldn't help it and did it 24 hours post exam and got the good pop up..but I have yet to see my name on the MA BON website...so yeah I am in a frazzled state right now lol!- Kaplan or U world?
UWorld!! Mainly because of their awesome detailed rationales and the questions are not vague and confusing as in Kaplan in my honest opinion- NCLEX MONDAY HELP! anxious, nervous
I completely understand how you feel! I too am taking the exam Monday and I am starting to freak out to the point that I am having GI distress lol!! I mostly used UWorld, RN Nclex Mastery and Kaplan. I studied for about 6-7 weeks and did average 75-100 questions a day. I still feel like I could have done more...I don't know what to think. I feel your pains lol!- venting about scheduling...
OMG! The same thing happened to me!! I was pretty sure that I scheduled for 6/30th, the night before I wanted to triple check the address of the exam site and on my page it said no appointments scheduled. I had a breakdown and was told the same thing from the rep. SO I reluctantly scheduled for 7/11 the next available date....so frustrating- NCLEX RN
I am taking the NCLEX the same day as you (in 10 days), those scores are good based on what I have heard. I am using Kaplan and UWorld, and based on my research on here, UWorld is most similar to the NCLEX. As for percentiles in UWorld, As pp have stated just continue practicing questions, review the rationales and relax day before the exam. My father told me something today as I expressed my fear for the exam. He said "don't entertain any fear. Just go in confident and say I am going to pass, I am going to succeed no question at all!" For some reason that gave me the confidence and courage needed to continue studying and wait until I conquer the exam! - Announcing PASSED?
