  1. I really can't find a clear answer about the difference between what a care manager does and what a case manager does. I don't have experience in either one, I just accepted an offer for a hybrid care manager position (some days remote and some days out in the field). It's for the MLTC (Medicaid) Managed Long Term Care program. Not sure what to expect - would appreciate any replies on what I could expect and what the difference is between "care" and "case". Thanks!

What do you mean New York doesn't allow remote jobs?? I'm in New York and this is simply not true at all
  3. Gvaldez2: St. Francis seems to be weird with calling people back. After my interview with the nurse manager it went pretty well and she told me to provide references to HR and they'll tell me when orientation classes begin. It felt like I may have gotten the position, so on my drive home from the interview I left a message for the HR woman asking how to provide references. An hour later I received a phone call from LIJ about an interview I had there 2 days prior, they offered me the position and I happily accepted. Almost a week later I got a voicemail from the St. Francis HR woman. I didn't call back because I already had my LIJ offer so I'm not sure what she was going to tell me.
  4. What exactly did you not succeed with on the floor?
  5. Just wanted to update that I received an offer on a telemetry unit - so needless to say I'm very happy that I held out! :)
  6. I also have an interview on Thursday! Good luck to you!
  7. These are all really great questions to ask in response to that clinical question. That particular nurse manager who asked me this question wanted me to go in the direction of bowel movements. She asked that question with the answer being the patient is vomiting due to constipation related to recent surgery. Of course that makes sense but I also think there are SO many different directions you can go when a pt is vomiting, could be tons of reasons. I'm really not that good with these types of open ended clinical questions, I don't know if it's due to lack of experience or just not knowing what I'm supposed to know? Anyway, these are probably the toughest interview questions in my opinion. The where do you see yourself in 5 years is another doozie. I also don't know what to say, I eventually want to become a CRNA but is this appropriate to tell the nurse manager of the med-surg unit I'm interviewing for? What is it exactly they want to hear that will give me brownie points with them? Any suggestions?
  8. Thank you for such comprehensive answers. Definitely lets me see what routes to take with these types of questions!
  9. How would you personally answer this question? Do they really want me to start reciting a full head to toe assessment? Also, I feel like I'm not really experienced enough to notice patterns or the 'why' of things. For example during that question my mind immediately went to making sure the pt wasn't vomiting on her back and if she was, making sure she's turned to her side. But these questions of 'why is she vomiting' really trip me up.
  10. I'm a new grad interviewing for my first RN job. Several times I was thrown clinical scenario questions that I wasn't quite sure how to answer. For example I got one that goes, "geriatric patient is 3 days post op from bowel surgery, you go into her room and all vitals are within normal range. 5 minutes later a PCA tells you she is vomiting. You go back into the room, now walk me through a head to toe assessment". For some reason questions like these completely trip me up and I feel put on the spot. I usually end up stammering and struggling to get through the question. Does anyone get interview questions like this and how do you answer them?
  11. Congrats, Did they verify your gpa or did the listing you applied to specify a gpa requirement?
  12. That's really strange - when the HR person called me to schedule the interview she didn't mention anything about GPA. I do wonder why only some of their position listings say 3.4 is required and then other listings don't list a gpa requirement. I don't know what to do now - am I just going to be wasting my time going to the interview then?
  13. Does anybody know how strict they are with the 3.4 GPA? I noticed some of the job listing say that "new grads are welcome with 3.4 gpa". I have a 3.0 but some of their listings don't mention anything about a minimum GPA and so I applied to those only. I received a call scheduling me for an interview but now I'm scared once they realize I don't have that 3.4 I will be disqualified. The application I filled out didn't ask for GPA and the positions I specifically applied to didn't mention that as a requirement either. Any advice is appreciated!

That salary is very bizarre because new grad RNs get a base of about 84k for a staff nurse position at Mt Sinai, and that's WITHOUT any BSN/Night differentials.
  15. Would love to hear an update OP! Did they contact you? Did you get the position?
