This thread is for any upcoming graduates taking NCLEX in June of 2008.
To start off with I would love to hear if anyone is taking Kaplan, or Drexel or other prep courses and why did you choose the one you did? I am looking into them and I am just not sure which one is best and why.
Thanks!
"My doctor prescribed Xanax 0.25mg for my test anxiety:confused: but I will not be taking because I will be sleepy!!"
You will be fine. However, if you do have severe test anxiety, severe enough to frazzle you, the vitamin X may help. Chances are you will still have too much adrenaline to be sleepy. Besides, you can always break the pill in half or even in fourths; enough to pull you off the ceiling without dropping you straight to the floor.
Best of luck and congrats on your graduation from nursing school.
Thank you I think you are right I am even thinking about taking one tonight and one real early tomorrow hahaha I am scare to freak out there and not be able to do nothing. Does anybody here know if Xanax make you forget things ahahha please reaply if you read something on your drug book!!!!:chuckle
I didn't take the Kaplan trainer...but I did take review questions and tests...and it felt about normal to get about 50-60% right. I wouldn't overthink the kaplan trainer score. I would stick with your test date and just go in there confident. You already said you are going bonkers studying anymore. GO IN THERE CONFIDENT!!!
Thank you for your encouragement! I'm glad to know that 50-60% sounds normal to you. I just hate that Kaplan says its not good enough! Oh well, what can I do at this point? With that being said, I'm sticking with my date and will be testing on Saturday whether I feel ready or not....my wonderful boyfriend won't let me change it! He's been so great at keeping me motivated and confident! I also am hanging in there because of all of YOU! I am so thankful for this support group! Thanks again, mellowyellow! I appreciate your support! :heartbeat
loboscon08,I know you are feeling like you don't know a half of what everyone else does but listen, I told you when you posted that question yesterday, you know the one the infection control SATA. You can't let that feeling take you over now. Just keep telling yourself that the test you took in nursing school are so much harder[because they are] the NCLEX is just simple worded straight foreward questions, it is just that the answers are so like that you need to be calm enough to be able to use your mind. I know you can do this, if I can. Come on have some faith in yourself. Try that thing I do about picturing yourself actually in the senerio when doing each question and see if it works for you. It must have for me because I have never been good at those SATA questions. I was also to burnt out to study so I didn't and I am so glad now that I didn't. Just look over your infection control or work on just taking questions with rationele given with the answer. I think the NCLEX 3500 disc is the best trainer for that. You won't have any trouble, because you already know this stuff, you just have to keep reminding yourself you do. Well I have to get ready for work and I am doing it a little tired but with a smile this AM because I am an RN and you are too you just need to take the test to prove it. Talk to you later tonight. Have a good one.
Thanks so much for your encouragement and support, travel soon! I am definitely going to use your technique in picturing myself taking the test AND passing it! And, you sent me all of your knowledgetoo so I should be golden! I am sticking with my date whether I want to, feel ready for it or like it! Yesterday was a hard day and I think that I over studied and got extremely burnt out, which was a big cause of my break down last night. Today is a new day and I am off to start studying some more, but am not going to over do it. Congrats on your first day of work as an RN! I can't wait to know the feeling! Thanks again for your sweet words! I couldn't do this without you guys! :redbeathe
Well I have exactly one week left to study before I take Wednesday off and then test on Thursday morning. :typing I did three QT this weekend and did pretty decent on them but even though my percentages were ok I never felt confident or good taking them. I felt lost. I could normally narrow down to two answers and then had to try to rationalize or guess on the worst case scenarios. Is this normal? For those of you taking Kaplan did you feel this way while you were taking them? For this attempt I read through Kaplan's course book, then watched the content videos while following along and making notes in the course book, then I did the class review question videos. I did them like they advised by pausing before answers were given so I could answer it myself and then listen to how they got the answer. It did help doing it this way. Now I am doing QBank questions which I normally get about 60-63% on with one 69% with an average of 62%. I am starting to think that mine is broken as it usually comes out at exactly 60%. I don't know how many times I have seen that score. My QT scores are better with QT4 being 61%, QT5 being 68% and QT6 being 74%. I plan on taking the next one on Friday when I have my next day off. I guess I am just really worrying about failing this darn thing again. I do feel much more confident as a whole this time but I still have trouble remembering things and feel like an idiot while taking practice tests. Any advice?
Loboscon,I am also testing on Saturday. I've been doing Kaplan and my scores are in the high 50s to 60s with a few 70s on the qbank questions. I saw a big improvement when I reviewed the how to approach the exam section online. I don't know if you have access to that or not. If not just review the strategy portion of your book. I've been completely freaking out lately but I was also burnt out. So I planned fun things to do last weekend and during this week. And when I come back to studying after a fun thing I am so much more focused. What time do you test on Saturday?
I am testing at 8am on Saturday! What about you? I'm glad to know that you are scoring right around the same as me on the kaplan question trainers! It makes me wonder how many people really can get 65% on those things! They are tough! I do have access to the "how to approach the exam" and hadn't considered watching it again, but might do so if you think it helped you improve. Are you reviewing content at all? I've been trying to watch all of the online videos but they are soo long and it's going to be hard to get through all of them.
I had a seminar at work this morning until noon, had lunch with some friends and am now going to go study. I took your advice and did something fun for myself before studying and I am hoping it makes me feel better! I guess I'm taking this test whether I like it or not! I'm praying for you and keeping my fingers crossed! Thanks for your help and advice. :heartbeat

Amber07, your doing much better at the QT than I am! My kaplan instructor said that QT6 and 7 are the best predictors, so I'd say your doing great with a 74% on QT6! I got a 55% on QT5 and just have 6and 7 left to do. I test on Saturday and don't feel that I have enough time to retake any of them after studying content. I too have been watching the online videos while following in the book and still can't get very good scores on the QT! I don't know what to do! At this point, I'm just going to keep going on with the QT and working on Qbank questions (which I get better scores on), go over content in my weak areas and PRAY and HOPE for the best! Good luck to you!
Thanks! I guess I just feel that I don't warrant those scores because I feel like I am guessing on a lot of them. I just wish I felt more confident when I selected an answer because I knew it and not because I narrowed it down the best I could. I am mostly just focusing on getting more right then wrong and understanding all the rationales. I just hope that it is enough.
Good luck on your test!!! I think that your plan sounds like a good one. The videos are really long and they took me what seemed like forever to complete. I plan on rewatching the Pharm as I am weak in that area. That and review infection control and any weak areas I come across.

Well, tomorrow is NCLEX day. I have studied and feel confident in my critical thinking skills, even though my practice tests only ranged from 55% to 70%. I hope and pray I pass.
All of your posts have helped me stay calm and confident.
Thank you and congrats to all the new RN's!!!!!!!!!!
