June 2008 NCLEX support group

Published

This thread is for any upcoming graduates taking NCLEX in June of 2008.

To start off with I would love to hear if anyone is taking Kaplan, or Drexel or other prep courses and why did you choose the one you did? I am looking into them and I am just not sure which one is best and why.

Thanks!

I posted this on another thread (about Peason results), but I wanted it to reach both groups, so here it is: If it's not kosher for me to put it on both threads, than please moderators, PLEASE leave it on this one... Thanks...

SO... IT IS OFFICIAL. I did not pass for the third time. After dreading the results, because as I stated earlier, my results were not posted... days later. So... I contatcted Pearson today, they told me that NCSBN pulled my test, and my results were not available... HUH????????? Has anyone heard of this? They gave me the phone number and I called. At first I was told, no that did not happen, the results should be available... blah blah... but then she put me on hold, and about 8 minutes later, she came back online and said yes, they did pull my exam, that sometimes they randomly pull exams and grade them by hand??? to check results. Anyway, my results would be available by 11AM. So I got home, about ten min. ago, checked pearson, and found out I did not pass.

NOT HAPPY. Incredibly sad...

I am going to cross post this on the June test takers thread. I think I am the first of the month, if not, the first of the month for repeat test takers.

I cannot believe this, as I was INCREDIBLY prepared for this test... Back to square one? I don't know what to think. But I went in sooo positive, so ready... My testings went from July 2007 190 questions , Nov 2007 to 230 questions, to this time June 13th, all 265 questions...

I've done Kaplan, I've done, ERI (through school), I went from using every book I could get my hands on, which I was told was overkill (too much material) to using just the Saunders book, and doing Suzanne's plan. Am I the first person to not pass using this plan?

Suzanne: Please let me know what you would suggest my next step to be?

Thanks for any advice from all... UGH, I had a GREAT job lined up... Oh well.... Maybe I'm meant to be an ER Tech for now. I have to believe that God knows the plan he has for me, but just wants to keep it to himself for now.

Take care and good luck to all!

Oh My Gosh I passed. I can't believe it.

Good luck to all

Hi Accio,

You are not alone. I failed a few times, and now my fifth time, how embarrasing. I am testing enxt week, and I am still testing. Did you guys study to the last week. Just need to know. I have been moving my date since this past march 08. I last tested august 07, and waited all this time because I had to find and soul search where I was going wrong. Here I am a week away, so you are not alone. We just have to keep going, this is a part of the path towards our journey.

We can dom it, as hard as it seems, the hard part is taking the exam, the scary part is waiting for the results and the best part of it all, is caring for our patients for the next several years. But for now, we just ahve to get through this hurdle.

I never heard of correcting the exam manually, b/c I thought the results are already determined the day we take the exam, but maybe they just check for errors in correcting it. Anyways, good luck on re-reviewing and studying.

BTW...I am doing Suzanne's plan and nothing else. As hard as it seems, I am not cross referencing. I have heard positive results from ehr plan, and I am sticking with it. Saunders is all I am working with; I did Kaplan and ATI testing from school. I feel like I did it all.

So good luck, and as soon as you are ready to do so, schedule your next test date. It will keep you motivated!

I had 75 questions....Thank God!!!

I had 18 SATA. :)

....All's left is to pray. :saint:

DON'T GIVE UP TO THOSE HAVING TO RETAKE! YOU HAVE COME TOO FAR!!!!

hello,

Any good experiences from Kaplan Qbank who have already took the exam? Are tehre SATA's on the kaplan trainer?

I never used Kaplan Q bank trainer. What is the advantage of this program?

Thanks for any and all feedback.

I am testing at 8am on Saturday! What about you? I'm glad to know that you are scoring right around the same as me on the kaplan question trainers! It makes me wonder how many people really can get 65% on those things! They are tough! I do have access to the "how to approach the exam" and hadn't considered watching it again, but might do so if you think it helped you improve. Are you reviewing content at all? I've been trying to watch all of the online videos but they are soo long and it's going to be hard to get through all of them.

I had a seminar at work this morning until noon, had lunch with some friends and am now going to go study. I took your advice and did something fun for myself before studying and I am hoping it makes me feel better! I guess I'm taking this test whether I like it or not! I'm praying for you and keeping my fingers crossed! Thanks for your help and advice. :heartbeat

I test at 1:15. So come 8am I will be thinking about you. I really thought that the strategy video helped alot. I have been getting the same scores as you. I am focusing on reviewing the content that I get wrong on every set of q-bank and q-trainer questions. I think that this has been helpful. I am going to do the med review in the book tonight again for the second time. Those content videos for Kaplan are so long its just so hard to actually watch them all. I have watched a bunch but thats not really that helpful for me. I am going to just keep on taking the Kaplan q-bank and hope for the best. Hopefully we will both pass without a problem.

Passed boards.. now i'm wondering how long it will take in nc to receive my license..DO anybody know how long it takes in nc to receive RN licensure?

Just got back from taking the test. Don't know if I passed or failed. Shut off I think around 105 questions... is that a bad thing?

I definetly have a positive attitude and keep hoping and praying that I passed but just don't know. What I do know is that everything happens for a reason.. so as long as I can hold onto that, I should be fine!!

Just curious on your thoughts about it shutting down around 100 questions... usually its 75 or 180 or all the way to 265..... Any thoughts on this??????

well i was confident as i can be ya know??

are SATA and priority a good sign?? :)

ABSOLUTELY! Especially if there were a lot of SATA. These are higher level questions and indicate that the CAT believes you are very skilled. Lots of SATAs and 75 questions sould make you feel great.

i heard that there are a few that are randomly selected to take the entire test even if the computer determined that they passed...anyone else hear this rumor?

sorry :(

the random selection for all 265 questions is a myth. i have copied a previous post for you below. that being said, just because you recieved 265 questions does not mean you failed. you could have just as likely passed. moreover, the cat was unsure as well. i have no idea what the statistics is but i would guess that more people pass at 265 than fail. maybe we should run that poll...either way, keep your head up and remember even if you didn't pass, you were so close you almost did or you would not have recieved 265 questions.

the other post is below

goodluck to you! :plsebeg:

hi, great response. just wanted to point out for information purposes, that the nclex seeks 95% certainty. the following info is taken from the national council on state boards of nursing website @ https://www.ncsbn.org/ge_faq.pdf: it is intended to dismiss certain testing myths...

q- are candidates randomly selected to receive maximum length examinations-265 items for the nclex-rn examination and 205 items for the nclex-pn examination?

a- items are administered following the principles of computer adaptive testing (cat). candidates are not randomly selected to receive a designated number of examination items. as a candidate takes the examination, questions are selected based on the candidate's response to previous questions. testing stops when it can be determined with 95% confidence that a candidate's performance is either above or below the passing standard, regardless of the number of items answered or the amount of testing time elapsed (six-hour maximum time period for the nclex-rn examination and five hour maximum time period for the nclex-pn examination).

Okay so I just got back from NCLEX. I took the entire 265 questions. The strange part is...I don't feel freaked out like I was expecting I would. I had a ton of pharm and mental health, a few diseases I have never heard of, the rest was a bit of everything else... SATA, calcs, priority, safety, infection control, deligation, ect. Don't know where I stand at this point but I will keep you all posted.......although it was brutal sitting there for 5 hours straight....I didn't take a break because I kept hoping it would shut off. Oh well out of my hand now. I heard that there are a few that are randomly selected to take the entire test even if the computer determined that they passed...anyone else hear this rumor?

Ok just got home from my N-Clex, I don't know what to feel about it, I just don't know!! I had 4 math questions that was hard and then I had so many choose all that apply then I had 3 EKG question and meds, the meds was easy I just didn't know to answer all that apply for the meds hahahhah!!! At 75 the computer became dark and then blue then that was it. Well the lady told me you will know by tomorrow,a I told her I was felling very sick of my stomach and she said, take a deep breath this is normal. Now she also told me Good luck!! and I thought "now is to late I already took my test". Then on my way out the lady asked me if I want to pay for the quick results, and I told her no and then she asked if I was going to wait 4 weeks for the result and I told her no because I can check with the board of nursing and she said "True" so I don't know if that was a hint that she was giving to me that I didn't pass on the exame so I need to know fast. I prayed this morning and I had lots of people praying for me. I just don't know how to feel, I don't know if I pass or not, its crazzy, does anybody there felt the same?

Thank you!!!

If you had a lot of SATA and 75 questions, you should feel very goos about yourself. SATA is high level questioning. You would not get them if CAT thought you were suspect. You would get easier, lower tier questions. The test is programmed to be just hard enough so that everyone taking it averages about 50 right and 50 wrong. It started throwing you SATA's in an attempt to lower you back down to 50%. You did excellent and the CAT didn't like it a bit.

Grats on graduation and I hope you get your results soon.:yeah:
