This thread is for any upcoming graduates taking NCLEX in June of 2008.
To start off with I would love to hear if anyone is taking Kaplan, or Drexel or other prep courses and why did you choose the one you did? I am looking into them and I am just not sure which one is best and why.
Thanks!
Hi! I take mine next week... :) I'm so excited to get it over with. Just a few questions...I was just thinking today that none of my practice materials differentiated between a "hard question" and an "easy question" on the NCLEX. According to what I've read about it... you pass with 50% either way but you need to pass 50% of the hard questions. Did your questions seem about the same difficulty as your practice questions or did they step it up a bit!?? Also, how many alternative types did you have (estimate :)
THANK YOU!! AND CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

On the NCLEX, you want to get the "higher level" questions. Those consist of analysis, prioritization, delegation, and application scenarios. Anything at the recall or knowledge level are considered lower level questions because it is pretty much memorization and you are not using your critical thinking skills. I did the Hurst review, and I did the practice questions from Saunders, Lippencott, NCLEX 3500, the Kaplan book (2007-08 version) and CDs. I found the Kaplan book and the NCLEX 3500 pretty useful and was the most similar to the NCLEX. Also, the Hurst review was AWESOME! It was worth the money. I had 75 questions total, 14 SATA, 4 Math, 4 drug questions. I had a lot of prioritization questions and felt that I was in the higher level range. I find out on thursday how I did, but I am feeling pretty confident already.
Hello everyone,
I am starting to feel the anxiety coming on, but know I'm not the only one :wink2:. I take my NCLEX on Thursday the 5th... and will get my results on Friday (my birthday - the best present will be to find out I passed!!!). I took the Drexel review course, which was OK but not great, and also have the Kaplan and Saunders books. I'm going to keep reviewing through tomorrow, and then just have faith. Best of luck to all who are taking it soon as well!
I took the NCLEX today & felt throughout the entire exam that I was failing! I just can't explain it! I am a very good student coming out of a great program & never had problems with testing. I was stopped at 75 questions - which I know most people are thrilled about- but, in my case, I feel I didn't have chance to recoop from all the horrible low level questions I was getting wrong. I know my material- but, surprisingly, some content ended up stumping me. I felt i was guessing (incorrectly) on every question - even the basic S&S's of... That's the part that kills me - I don't feel any of the material was especially out there or unheard of. It was all basic stuff. I had a LOT of med questions, a LOT of SATA, a few alternate types, a couple med calcuations, some priority & infection control. No delegation or triage questions. I felt that I was staying at low level questions a lot of the time. I know I definitely missed the last question - a med teaching question. I just feel so shocked that I didn't feel prepared enough. I'll just be horrified to have to tell my family & my new manager that I didn't pass! I'm riding on luck now & feeling pretty depressed and angry. Sorry to vent~ but none of my other friends have taken it yet, and they don't want to get freaked out.
Jenny! This just has to be you. It's Sarah. GIRL! Of course you're worrying - that's what you do!! But listen, I KNOW you know your stuff, and there is no way you would have failed at 75 Qs. If you were to fail - it would have taken more than 75 questions for you to have not made the cut. EVERYONE comes out of this test feeling miserable. Remember, we only have to get more than half right. AND, if for some freak reason you didn't make it - shake. it. off. Believe me, I'm scared to death of having to make that walk-of-shame myself, but it happens. Your manager had to take the test him/herself, and I'm sure he/she'll understand. You have made it sooo far, and we've both overcome some big obstacles to get here. :wink2: It WILL happen. Regardless of how you did on this test, it WILL happen. You are just about the most sensitive, sweetest, nurturing woman I have ever met, and you WILL be such a gift to the profession and it's patients. You get big ole hugs and kisses. I know you are struggling. Let us all know as soon as you hear something. MUAH!! :icon_hug: (If this is the wrong Jenny, well, the sentiment still stands!)

Hi, I am taking the NCLEX in June (the 17th) and I took the Kaplan review...it was highly recommended by my school and our school has a very high passing rate of the NCLEX so I chose to take the suggestion :) I feel like it's helped, but I'm still nervous!
It certainly has been a long hard road! I graduate on My 10th. My college requires us to send our transcripts with our application to the state board. Mine finally arrived on May 29th! :down:Colorado SBON received my application on June 2nd. I am registered with Pearson Vue and patiently awaiting my ATT. I am just ready to get it done. Took my NCLEX-PN last year and passed the first time. Used the Saunders book to study.:wink2:
We also had HESI exams all year and I received a 920 on my exit exam. We also had a three day HESI NCLEX reveiw that was great! I study Saunders daily and try to do 100 questions a day. Already working night shift in the hospital as an LPN. Ready to start using everything I have learned... It feels like my test date is never going to get here, at this rate I will be lucky to test in JUly! For everyone waiting for results or waiting to test, I wish you all luck! I hope to hear lots of exciting stories regarding everyone passing!
