Austin Moms/Nurses I need your help!!
Check out http://www.greatschools.com, it's a great site. If you want to be in north Austin proper, look at Summit Elem, Pond Springs Elem, Laurel Mt Elem, Kathy Caraway Elem, and Pillow Elem. There are also many acclaimed schools in the outlying towns, especially in Round Rock. As far as daycare centers, the only I have experience with is Stepping Stone. They have won many awards, have a great program, and offer several locations all over town ~ even at a couple of the local hospitals. Good luck with your search ~ And WELCOME!!

June 2008 NCLEX support group
Jenny! This just has to be you. It's Sarah. GIRL! Of course you're worrying - that's what you do!! But listen, I KNOW you know your stuff, and there is no way you would have failed at 75 Qs. If you were to fail - it would have taken more than 75 questions for you to have not made the cut. EVERYONE comes out of this test feeling miserable. Remember, we only have to get more than half right. AND, if for some freak reason you didn't make it - shake. it. off. Believe me, I'm scared to death of having to make that walk-of-shame myself, but it happens. Your manager had to take the test him/herself, and I'm sure he/she'll understand. You have made it sooo far, and we've both overcome some big obstacles to get here. :wink2: It WILL happen. Regardless of how you did on this test, it WILL happen. You are just about the most sensitive, sweetest, nurturing woman I have ever met, and you WILL be such a gift to the profession and it's patients. You get big ole hugs and kisses. I know you are struggling. Let us all know as soon as you hear something. MUAH!! :icon_hug: (If this is the wrong Jenny, well, the sentiment still stands!)

ACC Nursing Student-Do I need to keep my prereq books?
Hey there, I've just graduated from ACC and I not once referenced my texts. Like Britt and Little Greek said, each chapter is prefaced with a brief overview of all applicable anatomy/physiology, and any need for better understanding can easily be found online - much more quickly than digging through a book. I wish I had sold mine! Good luck in school! I already miss it.

Yes, it was a much quicker process than I had anticipated. We had to pay for the test 30 days before graduation, so it was early April. The fast turn around may have to do with the fact that the BNE is here in Austin, so they very likely received our notices of graduation the day after our ceremony. Good luck to you as well!

June 2008 NCLEX support group
hi guys! i was pinned this last thursday, received my att late friday night, and registered first thing saturday for june 6th!! i start work on june 23rd, so i gave myself almost a month to study and a good two weeks of leisure time to serve as the "eye of the storm". so far, i have been studying pretty minimally. i am doing the hurst review online, and i really like it, so far. i've also been (lightly) flipping through a saunders question book, lippencott's nclex made easy, a kaplan review book, and the nclex-cram book, all of which are at least three years old, which makes me very nervous. just can't afford to shop for books right now. i'm finding the saunders and lippencott questions to be really straightforward and easy, but the kaplan and nclex-cram questions to be pretty tough. i usually do great on tests, but i just hate when there's more than one good answer!! i am the most indecisive person on earth!! ugh!! we can do this though!!

Time commitments for class and clinicals at ACC?
Hi guys, I am just finishing up the online program, and I highly recommend it. We cover the same material as onsite, use the same texts as onsite, and still have access to instructors for questions. Some instructors even offer optional seminars for discussion. I did not feel like I lost out on anything. Oh, and you also still get to know all your classmates very well, so you're not on your own. Clinical schedules vary per instructor. Most groups have it twice a week from 7a-3p. It just depends though. At the beginning of each semester you have to show up for several different reasons including labs and orientations. Once those are out of the way, you only have to show up for exams. The upside with online is that you get a lot of flexibility in your scheduling, the downside is that your schedule is not very constant. Most of the gals I knew with little ones used home-ran daycare - they seem to be more flexible. I lucked out and qualified for assistance through the support center. I was given free daycare at the provider of my choice. If you are lower-income, look into it soooon!! Also, there were several people who worked the whole way through. Most of them didn't have kids, and most of them had it affect their grades. But, they made it through. It is a great program, and it will be over before you know it! Good luck!!

saunders 3rd edition vs 4th edition??
Hi! I was reading over this thread and am thankful to be taught that each edition is updated per the exam. I have a copy of the 2nd edition and will now try to get my hands on the 4th. My question is this - as I have been flipping through my edition, it seems that most of the questions are really easy. Like three of four answers are pretty obviously not correct - for the most part, that is. Do these Saunders books really hold true to the exam? I'm hoping so!! I'm doing great so far!!

First relatively big mistake... can't stop crying
I'm sorry it had to be you, but I have learned from your story and would like to thank you for sharing it. I will now never make the same error, so your struggle is not all for naught! I hope that helps a little!! :icon_hug:
