I have learned that I seem to be the "Go To" when my AN friends are butt tired and need a post posted...and I like that.
I've learned that I miss the girls (and guy) on the School Nurse Forum.
I've learned that tomatoes are hardy.
I've learned that tears help sometimes.
I've learned that my mom is one of the strongest people I know.
Hmmm, I haven't learned much, but the week is still young.
I'm sure ixchel will check in. No worries. In the meantime...What have you learned this week?
Ps: I â¤ï¸olives, maximum caffeine consumption, and wine.
I know not of this "maximum caffeine" you all speak of.
When I was 19 I was a manager of a sandwich/fried chicken place in a truck stop about 40 miles west of Phoenix. I worked 12-14 hour shifts overnight, by myself for at least 8 hours doing the cleaning, stocking, baking, paperwork, putting away orders, etc. Then I would get off work, drive to the OTHER side of Phoenix (it was about a 70 mile drive, much like my drive to school now) to massage therapy school for 8 hours a day. Then drive back out to the boonies where I lived...
I WAS caffeine. If I don't have caffeine I get a horrible migraine that lays me out for a few days.

Thank you for clarifying the hemoglobin issue! That helps! 😀
do you know if Thallasemia is more life threatening than sickle cell? I know that Sickle cell trait carriers can be asymptomatic and athletes.
Sorry to hijack... I've been researching this online for a friend of my adult child's. NCAA now requires all athletes be tested. And a young woman with the trait - she never knew she had - has been verbally told she may not be able to participate in sports.
But NCAA guidelines clearly state sickle cell testing does not bar someone from playing.
So I'm wondering how thalassemia fits in.
Even if you or someone could point me to the correct Google search terms so I could look up more information...

A kid screaming during an IV insertion that suddenly vomits like a volcano is very...interesting
I remember one time when I was working in the ED, we had a man who came in who was a code in the making. His abd was grossly distended, so the doc ordered an NGT. Another nurse was helping me as I was inserting the NGT when suddenly, the pt vomited with such force that the vomit went straight up in the air; it looked just like a volcano had erupted. The other nurse and I looked at each other, and we both started to laugh. (Yes, I know it was totally unprofessional, but sometimes things catch you completely off guard.) The ED doc clapped her hand over her mouth and ran out the door.
We got the NGT in without further complications, and we got him cleaned up and settled for his wife to see him. That incident coined the term "pukecano."
Wait, what? Did I miss a thread? Please, tell me it hasn't been deleted yet..
Unfortunately you did and it has and I'm guessing the poster has been banned. It was a guy who just LOVES people and wants to be a nurse because he LOVES people. When it was politely suggested he shadow a nurse to get an idea of what nursing is really like he went absolutely bat-poo crazy. Apparently he doesn't LOVE people as much as he said. I don't think I have seen as many TOS violations in 4 posts as this guy accomplished. It was epic.
