Ivy Tech Spring '10 Nursing Program Students

Published

Hey guys here is a new thread, now that we've started the program and aren't 'hopefuls' anymore!!

Did the powerpoints for the Nutrition lecture ever get posted to blackboard? I haven't checked yet.

Glad to hear you got home OK! They drive wasn't too bad my direction either, just slow.

Did you all see the note on academic honesty posted in the lab section of Blackboard? I am officially terrified of not citing correctly!

Looks like a group has officially lost a student, that didn't take very long. Anyone know what the graduation rate is?

it was because of not citing correctly?? jeez! did that person already get dismissed from the program?

Misty how do you know someone is out of the program already?

A gal who was working on a group project with her emailed her because she had not been in class all week and she said she had dropped. Not sure why, I think she had a lot on her plate, though.

I "heard" that the statement may have had to do with improper citing of sources, not 100 percent sure if that is the case, but I could believe it. Apparently they don't give any wiggle room there.

It's scary especially since apparently the required pre and co reg Eng classes don't get graded that hard about APA style.

Yes, absolutely! Also, I wish they used the APA format we were taught here! Makes it more than a little confusing when they change from what was required in 111.

APA format straight from the horses mouth. I want my money back on the APA book I was required to buy for English. What a crock!

I hate that APA just came out with a brand new edition in the last few months. Because it wasn't difficult enough before, let's go ahead and make even more changes!

My school made a ppt handout of quick APA rules and stuff, and one of the things that it says is that people use APA so that you can focus on the content instead of the style details. HA HA HA HA HA biggest lie ever.

The Ivy APA book wasn't even correct for the 5th edition!!

Hey Lennon how are you doing?

Could you maybe email that powerpoint of APA rules you mentioned? Is it for the new 6th ed? If so let me know and I will PM you my email.

This APA stuff seems like it's a little out of control. I have gone through two english classes with pretty hard instuctors, yet never had a problem with citing things correctly. Since English is required to be admitted into the program, perhaps they should put a little more thought into the education that we are getting before hand. Basically, students are held responsible to educate themselves in areas where instructors fall short. That seems to be a pattern at Ivy Tech. Sorry to vent so much. My paper was not even marked that much. It just makes me mad. We all know how much work goes into getting into this program. To think that it can be yanked away because they changed the rules without our knowledge, makes me ill. Having to leave this program would literally be life altering for anyone of us. I would like to know the graduation rates myself. ANYWAY, I am glad things went well on your way home on Friday, it took me 2 hours and 20 minutes to arrive to my front door. On a fun note, I found the time to take my kids sledding yesterday; it was awesome, and I highly recommend it...

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND

GO COLTS:yeah:

Hello everyone...hope you Indy folks ae enjoying a night of no lab quiz! WOOOHOO! I think that the academic dishonesty policy is stemming from some incidents that did not involve improper citing, just to quell your fears. Proper citing is definitely important, but from what I understand, there have been some other issues with academic dishonesty that had nothing to do with that. Just don't tell people about test content or bring materials to cheat with--pretty common sense stuff for the most part, I think.

Hope you guys all have an awesome week--I'm so nervous about my competency! Eeek! Gonna practice on my daughter's stuffed animals until I have it down pat! haha!
