Ivy Tech Spring '10 Nursing Program Students

Hey guys here is a new thread, now that we've started the program and aren't 'hopefuls' anymore!!

Did the powerpoints for the Nutrition lecture ever get posted to blackboard? I haven't checked yet.

I gave up on using the Ivy Tech library. I just browsed the web for reliable sources, such as gov, and education sites. I found that if you think of a way culture could interfer and then push it in, it helps. For example, Chinese healthcare beliefs. Then you will pull up articles about chinese cultural. The best ones that I found were Chinese, Amish, Hispanic, and Muslim. I hope that helps. Oh and I am not sure if you are allowed to use sources that are not from the library, but I honestly spent hours trying to navigate that website, and found no good information or not enough.

The online library databases we have access to are huge, unfortunately it takes awhile to learn how to navigate them. Take some time to play around with the databases and the search options. The resources we have here far exceed the public library and net info, take advantage of them!!

Great job so far, Xyra! Sounds like you're adjusting well! It is funny how a B seems so "devastating" after receiving such high marks on the pre-reqs.

As for our Cultural Diversity paper, I actually did it Friday night (I'm such a party animal) and I just researched online. I found a few articles from various publications that were presented on a few websites. The sites themselves weren't necessarily .edu or .gov sites, but the info that I used was from published journal articles anyway. I didn't attend the library orientation since campus closed early that day, so I'm not terribly familiar with the resources that are availble. I did find a journal article on the library's website to do my extra credit paper for Pharm last week, but I didn't even think to look there for the Cultural Diversity paper.

I know everyone is sick of the crazy book mix-up, but can somebody clear this up for me once and for all: Please tell me the titles (not just the authors) of the two books that we do NOT need, and then the titles (i know they're both Carpenito) of the two books we DO need? I feel like a thousand different versions of the same story have been told, and I'd really love to hear from someone who has actually traded in their "wrong" books and purchased the "right" ones. Since I didn't get my books in the box at the bookstore (I shopped Amazon), it's a little more confusing for me because I can't just rely on the bookstore to fix the mistake. It sucks to be out the money for the books that we were told to buy on the list, but such is life. I'll probably still keep what I bought and just "add to my collection" with the two new books.

BTW Indy students--don't forget about our lab quiz due by 11:55 tonight!!

The books needed are Handbook of Nursing Diagnosis 13 Edition by Carpenito-Moyet and Nursing Diagnosis Application to Clinical Practice 13 Edition, Carpenito-Moyet. Not sure of the exact titles of the ones that were returned, but they were close.

BTW Anyone going to the bookstore, make sure you get your 200 dollars back on the original bundle, they don't always do it!

How do you get extra credit in Pharm?

Yeah she never told us about extra credit in Pharm. I think she just forgot to tell our section so we will have to ask her about it on Wednesday.

She doesn't give it all at once so she won't have to grade it all at once. She assured our group that everyone would get an equal chance for extra credit.

Aha, that makes sense. I bet our topics will be different too.

Yes, I think she tries to make the paper relevant to the group. I am thinking castor oil must have come up during the other classes discussions.

So glad to be offered a few extra points in there, that class is gonna be a killer!

So good to know about the extra credit in Pharm. That class is a little scary!

You have no idea. I have gone over about 60 slides from this weeks powerpoints, and it gets really difficult. The first 40 or so are not so bad, but then you hit the different drugs, and it's really hard to remember the different things associated with each.

Yeah I think Pharm is going to be the killer class for all of us. I could never remember all the different drug stuff that was in Micro (online class).

Finished my cultural diversity paper. I don't know if what I wrote is what they are looking for exactly, but oh well. I know several of you had yours done way early, I wish I could be like that but doing those kinds of papers is something I tend to put off because I hate writing papers.
