So who has orientation on Monday at 8 in room 214?? I want to know who to look for so I don't have to sit solo!

Break has been great---Just got back from Disney! I'm excited for summer classes, but nervous too--I just don't know what to expect. I just wish I knew what hospital I was going to---I wonder when they'll tell us. Is anyone else waiting to know their clinical location?? I'm such a planner and I always need to know what's going on, so it just makes me crazy to not even know where I'm going to be! Does anyone know what book(s) we need for OB/Peds? I'm hesitant to just buy something, but I want to have something before the first week of classes b/c I don't buy from the bookstore (I buy from Amazon). The bookstore online shows the book, but I just wonder if that's really the one we need....after the book disaster of first semester, I'm just trying to cover all my bases!

At least most of us will be at school for lecture at the same time---maybe we will see each other at breaks sometimes?? MistyMiss, excited that you and I might finally have class together! PM me and let me know which instructor is listed for your clinical---That's pretty much the only way to tell if we're in the same one. Some instructors are TBA, but mine actually is listed. SOOOO excited for OB/Peds!

I hate that I haven't had any of you in class, but it looks like I will for summer, so that's great! Hooray for OB/Peds! This semester has been fabulous but I'm SOOOO glad it's almost over. Now I just have to study for a million hours for my finals (terrified for lab final for some reason, PS) and then I'm D-O-N-E! Woohoo! Congrats everyone on a great semester!

I have a 3-year-old and I'm in nursing school and working part-time as a Realtor. Sometimes it's tough because I have to spend an evening studying for an exam rather than spending time with my family, but it's really not as crazy as I thought it would be. Most evenings, I'm still able to get my house clean, cook dinner, play with my daughter and hang out with my husband. It's really all about time management and with 3 young children, I have to believe that you're probably pretty good at that already! I know that I'm missing out on some time with my daughter while I'm at school, but I keep reminding myself that the end justifies the means and my schedule as a nurse will allow much more time to spend with my family than my schedule as a Realtor! I'm excited to do something amazing for my family, for my patients, and for myself, and I know that my daughter will be proud when she's old enough to understand what that means :) Good luck to you in whatever you decide!

Based on the limited class/clinical availability in these programs, I would guess that if you had already started classes here and then moved, you would have to wait for a spot to open up at the other campus in order to stay in the program. Otherwise, they might just make you re-apply and start with a new semester of students. I'm really not sure though, so I'd definitely recommend calling the nursing office to find out. You'd also want to call the office of whatever campus you think you'd transfer to, as many campuses have different "rules" about how this is done. Good luck!!

I'm re-living this whole waiting game watching your forum now! I'm in the program at Ivy Tech Lawrence (with Csab) and I went through the same nail-biting that you guys are going through now! You'll have those letters before you know it! I'm sure you'll all do great. It's definitely an awesome program and you're sure to love it! It's a lot of material, but the faculty definitely know what they're talking about and they really love what they do, so it makes it that much easier to learn from them. Good luck to you all!! Geez, I just looked on here and nobody has posted since the middle of March! I guess it's a true testament to how busy we all are! Good luck to everyone on your catheter competency if you haven't had it already. I passed and couldn't believe it---there's a lot of sterile "real estate" when you're doing that and I was terrified that I'd contaminate. I read through the GI lab for next week and it sounds even harder! Luckily, we only have 3 more competencies, and then the final (by the way, does anyone know how that works??? I really don't understand the concept at all!) I got OB/Peds for summer, but I don't know who I'm with. I think my section is B1H with clinicals M/T but the location is not yet posted. I heard that we might not even know the location until the week before classes start! yikes! Oh well, I'll have to go wherever they put me, so I guess the exact location isn't important until I'm actually expected to be there, of course! Have you guys taken the ATI practice tests yet?? Wow.....There's not much more to say than that. I literally have never taken anything so hard! I bombed both the Fundamentals and Pharm. I felt like the Pharm test had TONS of drugs that we've never studied in class, so I don't understand how we're expected to know those. I guess you just study the ATI material and figure it out, but I wish they would warn us about that stuff before we take the practice tests and get so discouraged!

I'm jealous of everyone because I don't even know my schedule yet! haha! I think I got it early last time, so maybe it's a trade-off and I'm one of the last people to be registered this time. Oh well, more time for me to pray for OB/Peds! It's definitely scary to think of having new instructors since we've all gotten used to the ones we have. Hopefully everything will be fine and we'll all sail through the rest of the program! Here's hoping!

Yep, those were my drugs....I heard those a lot, so I think all of the stations had those two. Of course, they could always switch it up for another group--just to keep us on our toes!

Congrats on your job!! 3rd shift will probably be tough to start, but your body will adjust. My friend works nights and she said that she sleeps with an eye mask and a fan during the day to "trick" her body into thinking it's night time. You will be tired, so as long as you have the right environment, sleeping shouldn't be too much of a struggle! I think she sleeps until about noon when she gets home, and every night she sleeps from 9-11 for a "nap" before she goes in. That still accounts for about 6 hours a day, which is do-able for her....Of course, everyone's different! You could always sleep a little later during the day or lay down at 8:30pm for your "nap" instead of 9 or whatever. My friend's daughter is a toddler, so she actually naps in the middle of the day when her daughter naps instead of sleeping all the way until noon. She gets to play with her in the morning, see her after her nap, and still puts her to bed at night before she takes her "nap" before work. You can do it! You will definitely have to make some adjustments, but you'll just have to play around with your time and see what feels right for you and your family. I'm sure in a couple of weeks it will feel like second nature. Good luck!

Had my PO meds competency today...went fine. I wish I didn't get so freakin' nervous before these things! I swear my hands were shaking so bad that I thought I was going to pour Phenobarb all over my patient! Hopefully as we do them more and more, the nervousness will subside a little. Still terrified for clinicals tomorrow...Really hoping for a better day than last week. I guess I just need to remember that I just have to get through it and then I've got a whole week of NO SCHOOL next week! Wooohooo! I can't even remember the last time I had a "spring break" (okay I can, but we won't go there) and I'm excited to clean my house and organize my scrapbook room---what is wrong with me? Oh well, I guess school puts things into perspective, eh? Plus, we're doing Disney after this semester is over, so I'm psyched! Woohoo!

Amen! That's what we're all here for, right?! Definitely makes me feel better to know that so many other people are questioning their decision to even be in this program---Obviously it's a rash decision to be making, but that's what happens when you have a clinical day like that! I'm sure it will get better for all of us! As for the drug cards, I'd say we'd be better off to do them all on Word using that template that they've given us. I think they were suggesting that we bring notecards or whatever if that's the easiest format for us to have, but since we have to have the Word formatted template for clinicals anyway, we might as well do them all the same for the sake of consistency. That's how I'm doing them, anyway.

Well, I'll eat my words. I looked at the agenda and definitely didn't notice that part at all. Guess that will teach me to read my agendas more carefully!
