Ivy Tech Spring '10 Nursing Program Students

Hey guys here is a new thread, now that we've started the program and aren't 'hopefuls' anymore!!

Did the powerpoints for the Nutrition lecture ever get posted to blackboard? I haven't checked yet.

Got the two quizes for the week done, plus the biblio. There are so many things to stay on top of, its crazy.

I have the first 2 quizzes done, but I have not tackled the biblio just yet.

You better get right on that Carlos, hahaha. That resource quiz was so very easy, I wish they could all be like that. The biblio really isn't bad, 150 words goes quick.

Hello strangers....I've been MIA for awhile, but I'm happy to see everyone did well on their vital competencies! I finished my two quizzes, but now I have the biblio (plus the post on someone else's biblio), the drug cards for my clinical next Thursday, Dosage Calc Monday to study for, Pharm test Tuesday to study for....Yep, I think that's plenty. Of course, as soon as I finish all of those things, it'll be time to add 5 new things to my agenda. This is crazy. I really had a handle on the first five weeks, and now I feel like everything is out the window and I'm clueless again. Hope I can settle-in soon and figure this stuff out.

I was shaking in my boots at our first clinical yesterday. No patients yet, but even being on the floor and seing patient rooms was almost enough to induce a panic attack! I'm just afraid my staff nurse will be mean or I'll mess something up or my patients won't like me because I'm a student and they think I'm an idiot or something. Who knows???? I have a horrible problem with fear of the unknown, so I suppose once I have a few patient days under my belt, I'll probably be okay. Plus, you'd think that staff nurses would love having a student nurse to help them get their work done, ya know?

Annie, I feel the same way as you do about the fear of the unknown, and I think we ALL have that! I was like Oh my gosh, there are REAL patients in these rooms! LOL. But my neighbor said that nurses at our hospital are really nice, and she liked having clinicals there.

i have determined that i hate doing drug cards. i now understand how the whole care plan that we will be doing can take up to 8 hours. i am not scared of taking care of a patient, but i am so afraid of all this clinical paperwork, along with everything else we have to do every week. i also suck at the computer system, so i know i am going to have to ask a million questions, and eventually i'm gonna get on the nurses nerves or something. i tell you though, i am so relieved that i have our pharm instructor for clinicals, she is truly going to be a wonderful teacher. well i have to go do the second half of my drug cards, so you all have a great saturday. by the way i will probably do this all the time, even if no one is reading it. simply because i have no life any more, and this is about all the socializing that i have time for. so thank you all for letting the rest of us know that we are not alone. :D

Totally share your sentiments on the drug cards! They are going to take a whole lot of time on top of an already jam packed week!! I am assuming at least 5 or 6 hours of work?? Half an hour per card?? An hour??? Oh well, guess I should figure that out by getting them done. Have a great day!

:anpom::anpom: We can do it!! :anpom::anpom:

Okay so our instructor said that we could subscribe to an online drug reference website so we could copy/paste drug info onto/into the drug card template. I found www.drugguide.com which is about $40 for a yearlong subscription. I'm seriously considering it.

I wish we could do that! We were warned about plagiarism :(

I am going to do it. She recommended it, so I am gonna do it

Thanks for the heads up on the site BTW! It rocks!

I guess if you register the code in the back of the red Drug Guide book we have, that will give access to some of the drugs as well. I haven't done it yet but I will later.

Misty, what did she say about plagiarism for drug cards? I think our instructor said that we don't have to have citations on the drug cards, didn't she say that Carlos?

It is weird how different instructors view it all so differently.

She said there is no plagiarism for drug cards and no references needed.
