Hey guys here is a new thread, now that we've started the program and aren't 'hopefuls' anymore!!

Did the powerpoints for the Nutrition lecture ever get posted to blackboard? I haven't checked yet.

Yes, they all certainly do it differently! You know, I don't recall her saying we had to cite the sources when writing them. She did mention copying word for word would be the big P. So... these cards really stink LOL

Shoot, ours said (and pretty much suggested) we copy and paste!

Yes she did. I just ordered the site, so I will be doing my cards tonight! I plan on using today to get all known due dates in my calendar. So much to keep track of.

*suddenly has instructor envy* JK :) They are all different, it really is just a matter of making whoever you have happy I guess.

I looked at the website from our drug book, I registered the code. After a while I finally figured out how to get the drug info stuff. Not all the drugs are on there, but the most common ones are. Pretty much all 11 cards that I did today were on there, and all I had to do was copy and paste.

You copy and paste folks are making me jealous! :)

It doesn't make sense that you can't copy and paste drug info. Obviously it is not something that you would know if you didn't look it up. There is no way to say medical words in your own words. Such as adverse effects, hemorrhage, dsypnea, othostatic hypotension. See what I mean, so it's stupid that you can't do it.

Does anyone know if for the new APA, if you have that long DOI number, do you have to also put "Retrieved from ............." i.e. the EBSCOhost database? Or is that DOI number supposed to take the place of Retrieved from?

Okay so the APA stuff that was posted in the sensory assignment for 102 is all 5th edition! Arrrggghhhh! What do they want us to use??!?!?!?!?

Yeah, I wish they'd make a decision on APA and stick to it because it seems like everyone keeps asking for different versions of the same thing. I haven't started drug cards yet, but our instructor also suggested that we copy and paste from a site like that...You really can't do that stuff in your own words anyway. I guess you could re-arrange the order of the words, but they'll all be the same. All of this work is making my head spin. I feel like I'm so far behind already.

Well, how did everyone's first week of patient clinicals go?? My day was incredibly awful and I couldn't even believe how stressed I was. My assignment was very difficult and I really felt completely unprepared. I kept forgetting things and I really thought I was going to pass out from the stress! haha! I think I have a better idea now as to what exactly will be expected from me everyday and at what times, but it was really overwhelming to be "thrown to the sharks" as it felt. It's one thing to practice skills on healthy students in a completely controlled setting, but another thing entirely to perform them on sick patients in various "uncontrolled' situations. Yikes....so glad that first day is over! I got on the unit and realized I didn't even know how to raise and lower a bed, how to turn off a call light, etc. Just wish we had spent a little more time going over some of those things. My staff nurse was also less than pleased that I was there to "help" her that day, so that didn't help. Oh well, what can you do?? Guess I'll just pray for a better week next week!

I hope so much that it goes better for you next week. There is so much to learn, cut yourself some slack and hang in there! I think we are all feeling a bit unprepared. I know that before too long however, we will be old pros :)

My day went well, had a lovely patient and nurse. Not looking forward to doing the care plan this weekend, but I know it will help me in the future. Hope everyone else had a good experience!
