Ivy Tech Spring '10 Nursing Program Students

U.S.A. Indiana

Hey guys here is a new thread, now that we've started the program and aren't 'hopefuls' anymore!!

Did the powerpoints for the Nutrition lecture ever get posted to blackboard? I haven't checked yet.

Aw, so sorry your day went so bad. I had a patient that didn't want anything to do with me or anyone else. My nurse did not participate much, (not in a bad way, she was very nice). I was lucky and got a very self dependent patient, but I now feel unprepared for when I get a dependent patient. It seriously crossed my mind yesterday that maybe I am not cut out for this.

Leen, it crossed all our minds

Oh I'm so glad to hear everyone say that because it crossed my mind too! I will definitely be back next week, but I hope it gets better. I can't have many more weeks like last week....Not sure I'll make it through!

Leen it's still crossing my mind. . . I've even been fantasizing about winning the lottery so that we would be set and I could quit. I'm not kidding.

Leen check your ivytech email!

Yes, everyone check your Ivy Tech e-mails because we have extra drug cards due just to be "admitted" to lab Monday. I can't believe they're doing it this way b/c we knew NOTHING about these being required and I feel sorry for the people who don't check their Ivy Tech e-mail over the weekend for some reason. I know we're responsible for that e-mail, but it doesn't seem fair to give a homework assignment via e-mail and put someone's lab attendance on the line. I almost didn't check mine, so I'm really glad I did!

It is listed on the Agenda for this week in lab, but only as a note that completed drug cards have to be brought. It doesn't say in the agenda for what drugs, so yeah people need to read the email for that.

Oops editing to say that the drugs needed are listed on the agenda under Supplemental assignments.

Well, I'll eat my words. I looked at the agenda and definitely didn't notice that part at all. Guess that will teach me to read my agendas more carefully!

Annie are you still up too? Do you think that we can do the drug cards for lab by the copy/paste method that we are allowed to do for clinical? (since lab instructor is not the same as clinical instructor). I sure hope so. The email made it sound like the should be handwritten? (referencing using 3x5 index cards or the cards available in the office)

Hey you guys. Sorry for the lack of optimism, and thanks for the feedback. I will try to be a little less negative. I have to tell ya though, it makes me feel so much better to tell you guys my thoughts, and to listen to yours. Honestly only you guys and others in program truly understand what I am talking about. My family and friends try to be supportive, but I know they are getting sick of hearing about it. They probably think I am crazy, so it helps to know that you all know that I'm not (hahahahah), yet that is.

Blab away sister. We are all going through this together.

Amen! That's what we're all here for, right?! Definitely makes me feel better to know that so many other people are questioning their decision to even be in this program---Obviously it's a rash decision to be making, but that's what happens when you have a clinical day like that! I'm sure it will get better for all of us!

As for the drug cards, I'd say we'd be better off to do them all on Word using that template that they've given us. I think they were suggesting that we bring notecards or whatever if that's the easiest format for us to have, but since we have to have the Word formatted template for clinicals anyway, we might as well do them all the same for the sake of consistency. That's how I'm doing them, anyway.

Had my PO meds competency today...went fine. I wish I didn't get so freakin' nervous before these things! I swear my hands were shaking so bad that I thought I was going to pour Phenobarb all over my patient! Hopefully as we do them more and more, the nervousness will subside a little.

Still terrified for clinicals tomorrow...Really hoping for a better day than last week. I guess I just need to remember that I just have to get through it and then I've got a whole week of NO SCHOOL next week! Wooohooo! I can't even remember the last time I had a "spring break" (okay I can, but we won't go there) and I'm excited to clean my house and organize my scrapbook room---what is wrong with me? Oh well, I guess school puts things into perspective, eh? Plus, we're doing Disney after this semester is over, so I'm psyched! Woohoo!
