Ivy Tech 'Fall 2010' Applicants

Published

Hi everyone! I wanted to start a thread for those of us planning on applying by April 1st....

Has anyone taken the TEAS yet? Where are you with your pre-reqs? What campus are you applying to?

I am planning on taking the TEAS in December, so I have enough time to retake it :) and this is my first semester at Ivy Tech. I'm taking APHY 101, ENGL 111, and PSYC 101 all this semester and I will complete APHY 102 next semester. I am planning on applying to Indy.

And good luck to all the Spring 2010 applicants! :yeah:Hope everyone gets in!!!

Wow, guys, I can't believe that we should have the letters in our eager little hands in approximately 5 weeks! That's not long at all, especially since the semester doesn't end until May 9th. I've been so busy finishing up my classes this semester, that the month of April has flown by and I've still got more to do which will hopefully help the first two weeks of May go by quickly. I can't wait!!! :w00t:

It looks as though I will have A's in all my classes this semester, so I'm happy as can be. I was worried that I would get a B in Chemistry, but I think I will actually pull an A out somehow. All I have left in 101 is the final (I only need to make a 68.5% on it to keep an A) and I have 2 exams (1 lab, 1 lecture/final) left in 102 and while I have to make at least 87% on those to keep an A I think I'll do fine. I've done well on the last exams, so I just need to keep up the studying. It will be a relief to get this semester over with so I know whether to be disappointed or not.

How's everyone else doing?

Not sure how I am doing.. I usually get good grade but my English 112 has had multiple instructors and we only have this last one for our research paper and final. Too bad that is the majority of our grade. But Math, Adv Physiology and Med Term are all Aces for me. FIVE weeks seems like forever. I know it isn't but I really want to hold that paper in my hand and shout out loud. Of course, you do know, that is only the begining.... it gets much harder and more stressful once you get accepted in the program and classes begin. I can't wait!!!

I will be ending up with a B in 101. BLECH! Leaving me at 188 points.

We will see what the letter says come June, but I know I will not be getting into RN for sure and LPN is kinda distant. I've actually been doing a little soul searching lately and since I won't be getting in RN, I am almost 100% positive I will be transferring to IUPUI to start working on a BSW. It's really taking a toll on me to maybe get into a program and I really cannot take any more time to get something rolling. I know that eventually down the road I can go back for my BSN, and getting a degree in social work still allows me to do what my passion is- helping others and making a difference. I am hoping to eventually hold a masters in both! I'll stick around through letters and see how everything goes, but I would be very surprised to see me stick around much longer.

KGLE~

You are such a good and helpful person, a great mother, a hard working student etc etc etc. It is a shame that attitude & personality don't give you points because you have what is needed for nursing.

I know I need to reconsider my options as well because I can't seem to get this A&P stuff at all and I haven't even take 102. It is disappointing that what I feel is my all is not good enough. I am open to the LPN program but I don't even know if that will be an option.

Initially I was going to school for Human Services before I got laid off and decided I could finally dedicate my time to trying to go for nursing. Now I think I should have stuck with that even though the work is hard and the pay is not so great I think working in my own community and helping others would be a great reward!

Anyway, good luck Kara and I hope you do get into the program, but whatever happens I know you will be making an impact in someone's life with either career path. I also know first hand that more people like you are needed in SW!

Thank you Emmi :)

Hey Erin

I must be one of those names in the long list of people who have applied to the nursing program for this fall in Lafayette....talk about nail biting.....I applied in January and the letters don't go out until the end of May....ugh! The waiting is always the worse. I did hear that the TEAS scores were the lowest they have seen so maybe that's to our advantage!

i applied at the valparaiso campus and according to my friend who just attended the nursing session, the approx. cutoff is looking like it's gonna be 205 for the fall semester. this came out of the mouths of the 3 faculty that do the selecting so i have my fingers crossed that it stays there:lol2:. i have all my preq's taken for the whole degree and have very little to work with at this point, it turns into a "how much can i possibly tack on to my school loan before i graduate"

gosh....i would be awfully close....i really hope what you heard is not accurate : (

gosh....i would be awfully close....i really hope the score changes just a little.(

do you know if that was for the rn or lpn program?

I wonder if that means that other campuses are seeing low TEAS scores also. I applied at 4 different campuses this semester. One of my friends is about to graduate from the LPN program in Anderson and she got in with a 180. The receptionist in the nursing department in Columbus told me that the usual cutoff at their campus for LPN was in the 170's. I'm willing to start in the LPN program if need be. What campuses did you apply for?:nurse:

I heard that too. I also heard that the Lafayette campus increased their spots for RN from 50 to 80 - but I have no idea if that's true or not! I hope so!

Next week is finals week and I'm not too worried because I have a solid A in APHY102. I'm more worried about my microbiology final. I'm still feeling kind of uneasy about my TEAS score... I've talked to several people who scored in the 90s. I'm also kind of worried because I didn't turn in my application until a couple days before the due date and I didn't know that in the case of a tie, they would take the person who turned their application in first.

I also really need to get my high school transcript turned in to Ivy Tech. When I turned in my RN application, they said it didn't need to be turned in right away. I've been busy and it keeps slipping my mind - I'd hate for THAT to be the reason I don't get into the program.

So much stress! And to top it all off I've been really sick for the past two weeks or so - I can't wait until I just know already.

As far as I know, the HS transcript thing would not keep you out of a program. You definitely need to have college transcripts, but the HS one is just something they need for you to graduate. At least that is how I understood it.

I don't even think you "have" to have your college transcripts on file by the application date UNLESS you plan on using a prereq that was taken at a school other than Ivy Tech.
