  1. Some states like Indiana call it WAG now. Workforce Accereration Grant. You have to qualify and the amt can vary every year but it is a great program. If you get accepted (it might be a year to get in) be sure to do all the paperwork properly or you will be dropped. I have forms that my instructors sign at the end of every class.
  2. It was a LONG day. But not a bad one... We had orientation at the hospital this morning and got badges. In lab we did handwashing, ted hose, restraints, gloves, and ROM. Next up is 2 days of lecture then Pharm on Friday. I am fortunate, I got a really good group and it was a lot of fun. OH we got our syllabus for 100 and 101 on Friday in our second orientation. That way we could read the chapters and watch the cd's prior to class today.
  3. I am 47 and starting clinicals in a week… I didn’t want to be a nurse when I was younger.. I didn’t want any of “those female jobs” so I always worked in male dominated positions. I actually started trying to go back to get my prereqs several years ago and then when my job went away.. it was time to do this thing that has been on my heart for some time. I have no idea how or why or anything else, I just know this is where I am supposed to be. I will have loans of course and I will be an “older” graduate. Some days I get scared by it all but I know that when I graduate I will have a job. How do I know that? Not sure. I guess because I figure that everyone will see that I bring more to the table than my education, I bring my life experience which is a lot. I try to not worry about the future, it will take care of itself. I try to learn as much as I can so I can be the best I can be. It may sound corny to many but the new reality is there are many like me out there and we really do want to go into this profession and it really isn’t about the pay.
  4. Last time I looked, Richmond did not have a "packaged box" of books just the individual ones.. Oh about $700 worth... and we start on the 20th. Another "orientation" thing.
  5. Your uniform won't be ready until "sometime in August"?? Wow, that would make me insane waiting for it. I guess I better get in there and get mine ordered. I was holding back waiting for funds after the huge book purchase but I don't want to be without. Is everyone else as nervous as I am? I was ok until I saw the books! I peek inside and start to feel a little sick.
  6. 1. OH 2. Harrison 3. LTC 4. 10.75 2nd shift 5. who knows I don't work enough hours to qualify
  7. Boy do I hear ya, and I am a CNA! The talk that goes on is unacceptable. The attitude is also unacceptable. But will it change, probably not. Why? Because these are the people that they can get that will stay while the rest of us run as fast and far as we can. Oh and I might add, the nurses that participate in the same attitude and discussion format really need to get a boot in the you know what. I am just amazed at the behavior that I witness everday. But on a positive note, I do know the owner and well, I am pretty sure "a little birdie" will be telling him a few things that he didn't know but the nursing staff does know. I know that LTC is stressful but everyone must remember these people are someone's mother/father, sister/brother, daughter/son and they deserve to be treated with respect and dignity. And sometimes I find that with just a little effort, the residents respond in such a positive manner that it makes my workload much lighter. Instead of fighting about things, they participate and we all win!
  8. I had handwashing, TPR, and haircare and wheelchair to bed. That was Cincy a year ago. Too easy and the testers were really nice. Strict but still nice and talked to me afterwards and gave me encouragement. :)
  9. WOW!!! Those scores are wild! I had heard that if you had a 200 in previous years you were sooo in. For everyone who didn't get in this time, chin up, you can do it. If you got this far, you can continue. For the rest of you.. hang on, the ride gets rougher here. My friend who just graduated told me that this will be the longest and hardest 2 years of my life!!!!
  10. I am in at Richmond. My score was 210. WHEW!!!!!
  11. Waiting for results from Richmond... was told by a little bird that I was in.. but still scared to death... Just waiting for the envelope that I won't be able to open by myself....
  12. I think I heard that they would be mailed for Richmond about next Wednesday or shortly after??? So relax til then, there is nothing we can do now except wait. Try to not worry too much and enjoy your time now because once we start, it is going to be way harder than it has been and it is going to take more time than you expect. The end is worth it but it is going to make you crazy for some time! What I have always heard is those that worry are those that get in, those that don't worry, they don't really want anyway. Hang in there gang, we are almost there!
  13. Not sure how I am doing.. I usually get good grade but my English 112 has had multiple instructors and we only have this last one for our research paper and final. Too bad that is the majority of our grade. But Math, Adv Physiology and Med Term are all Aces for me. FIVE weeks seems like forever. I know it isn't but I really want to hold that paper in my hand and shout out loud. Of course, you do know, that is only the begining.... it gets much harder and more stressful once you get accepted in the program and classes begin. I can't wait!!!
  14. Heard today over 300 applicants for Richmond. But I also heard that I shouldn't worry about it, looks good for me with a 210. I don't think I will stop worrying until I have the letter in my hand.
  15. I think Richmond has 40 and 40. Last I heard Lawrenceburg had 10. Might have changed in the last few weeks. I am going to Richmond because the odds are better to get in there.
