Ivy Tech 'Fall 2010' Applicants

Published

Hi everyone! I wanted to start a thread for those of us planning on applying by April 1st....

Has anyone taken the TEAS yet? Where are you with your pre-reqs? What campus are you applying to?

I am planning on taking the TEAS in December, so I have enough time to retake it :) and this is my first semester at Ivy Tech. I'm taking APHY 101, ENGL 111, and PSYC 101 all this semester and I will complete APHY 102 next semester. I am planning on applying to Indy.

And good luck to all the Spring 2010 applicants! :yeah:Hope everyone gets in!!!

Thanks Tara. Yes, at this point in time I can say that OB/Postpartum is my interest area, so I'm excited to get a glimpse of it this summer.

I guess it's possible that other campuses have different setups for their classes, meaning maybe your campus does things different as far as how many weeks classes are. For example I have a friend in Ft Wayne who has Med Surg I lecture for the entire 16 wks this term, but at Indy we have it for only 11 wks.

Chris,

It's interesting to see the differences between the campuses. At Bloomington, we have Med Surg 2 lecture and Peds/OB lecture both for all 16 weeks of the semester, but we take half of the semester for Peds/OB clinical and the other half for Med Surg clinical. We also don't have a summer option unless we're Spring start. All of the Fall start people like me get the summer off :D

I got an internship at the hospital this summer working in cardiac care receiving and recovery so I'll be taking care of people pre/post cardiac caths and then I'll be working my regular job one day a week too. I'm never going to see the sun this summer! However, I think that it will make clinicals a lot easier for me in second year. That's what I'm hoping for anyways :)

Tara, great job on the exam, that's awesome! :D

I actually looked at the fall nursing classes for the Eville campus and we have pharma for the full 16 weeks and everything else is 8 - 11 weeks. It's strange to me that things at each campus are different. You would think they would have the classes the same at each campus. Interesting....

Chris - I bet you are doubly excited, then, to have Peds/Ob this summer since you are interested in that. I hope that I get to take those relatively soon.

Lennon - congrats on the internship! You are going to be one busy lady (as if you already aren't in school lol). It sounds like you will be getting a ton of experience and that's always a good thing.

I hope everyone is having a great day! I've done a load of laundry, cleaned the house (including the kids bedrooms...what was I thinking?), and I'm getting ready to take exam 3 in aphy101. Tons of fun and excitement, yeah? ;-)

Exam 3 for me in 101 as well today! Muscles, blech!

It's also my little boy's 4th birthday :) Headed to chuck e cheese tonight! I cannot believe he is getting soooo big :(

He's adorable, kgle!!! Happy Birthday to him!! Good luck on your exam, too!

My second child turned 12 (omg) on Sunday and my oldest is turning 14 (double omg) on Friday. Love those Aries babies lol.

How do you add pics on here anyway? Wait, n/m, I think I see how to do it.

Specializes in Peds, Med-Surg, Disaster Nsg, Parish Nsg.

kgle

What a cute little birthday boy!!!!

Thanks tnbutterfly! Funny enough, he LOVES Spiderman and literally wants to be him LOL.

We had a blast :) Glad I got to spend some quality time with him since I am soooo busy with school right now.

I think I did pretty well on the 101 exam! I always freak out at the last minute because I don't study enough and think it is going to be harder than it is, and it always ends up pretty easy. I have 25 points left I think to work with, and 4 tests remaining to be graded. I can miss about 6 questions on each test and still maintain my A. Crossin' everything at this point!

Also, picked up a part time job at the tanning bed by my house :) Its not much, but at least it will be something once my unemployment runs out!

Another picture of the kiddo :) I can't believe I have been on here for so long and have never posted pictures...I'm in this one. You can see how freakin' giant he is compared to me! Anyway, I'm not hard to miss with my bright red highlights in my hair, so if anyone sees me on campus stop me and say hi!!

An adviser just told me that in Lafayette there are currently about 950-1000 (!!!) people in the system listed as Undeclared-Nursing. He said of those, about 250-300 have finished the pre-reqs and out of THOSE about 1/3 don't have a good enough academic standing to have a chance.

I've heard so much gossip on campus about what scores people who got in have. Someone told me that 190-something was the cutoff last year, but I'm assuming there are more people applying this time so maybe a 208 won't be good enough.

That's still A LOT of people for 50 spots! I keep having bad dreams where I don't get into the program. I applied to both the ASN and LPN program, but I'll be really disappointed if I don't get into the ASN. I guess I could always transition. Only another couple of months to wait... :uhoh3:

And kgle, your kid is so cute. My son is turning one on June 12th, I can't believe it.

I'm re-living this whole waiting game watching your forum now! I'm in the program at Ivy Tech Lawrence (with Csab) and I went through the same nail-biting that you guys are going through now! You'll have those letters before you know it! I'm sure you'll all do great. It's definitely an awesome program and you're sure to love it! It's a lot of material, but the faculty definitely know what they're talking about and they really love what they do, so it makes it that much easier to learn from them. Good luck to you all!! It sounds like you all have some really awesome scores!

laf erin -- do you know how many people actually applied to the asn for lafayette this year?

seriously with your 208 i bet you will get in!! ;)

Well, the adviser made it sound like it was at least 200, but obviously I don't know anything for sure. In all the classes I'm taking right now (Ab Psych, Math 118, Micro, and obviously A&P 102) it sure seems like the majority of the students are going for nursing.

I think that's because those classes are normally needed for most of the health related programs and nursing is the most popular one of those. When I was in my lower level classes like Comm 102 and Psych 101 I didn't have as many nursing hopefuls as I do in my APHY 102 class.
